It's tubal ligation. I actually know someone who had it done (well, so they thought until they had an "accident").

There are two procedures that a woman can have to not get pregnant. The first is getting your tubes tied. Your chances of getting pregnant are still possible. They have been known to untie. Plus this procedure can be reversed easily and would not be so expensive. The second is a tubal, this means your tubes are cut and burned at each end. This is more of a permanent procedure. It can be reversed but it is costly and there is no assurance that you can still get pregnant again.

What is Tubal Ligation?

Tubal ligation, commonly knows as “getting your tubes tied,” is a surgical sterilization technique for women. This procedure closes the fallopian tubes, and stops the egg from traveling to the uterus from the ovary. It also prevents sperm from reaching the fallopian tube to fertilize an egg. In a tubal ligation, fallopian tubes are cut, burned, or blocked with rings, bands or clips. The surgery is effective immediately. Tubal ligations are 99.5% effective as birth control. They do not protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

It means that your falopian tubes (that connect the ovaries to the uterus) have been separated and tied off. Usually they're burned off these days.... It has nothing to do with your period. It just means you can't get pregnant because your eggs can't get in to the uterus.

Tubal is when they snip your tubes and cauterize the ends and tie them so that your egg won't be able to make it to it's final destination: your uterus. The egg goes into nowwhere land and you can't get pregnant.

You still get your period but for me I have more cramps than ever after the procedure.

To have your "tubes tied" means to have an operation so you can't have babies anymore.

It is a surgery that you get when you don't want to become pregnant anymore, but there is never a 100% guarantee.
