Let L be the length
Let W be the width

now,
L = 3W

Area of rectangle is L x W = 147

Substituting L = 3W in above equation.

3W x W = 147

3WSquare = 147

Wsquare = 147/3

Wsquare = 49

so w =7

W= x
L= 3x

A=L*W
A=3x*x
A=3x^2
147=3x^2
divide by 3
49= x^2
find the square root
7=x
W=7
L=21

Think of it this way:

L= 3w
W=
A= 147 sq ft
A= L*w

Soo.. lemme see if I can remember...

(3w)*w=A
A=147 sq ft.

I'll leave the rest for you to figure out.
