Actually, it is the basis of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism that are evil. All anyone has to do is read the Bible, the Torah, and the Q'uran to see this.
The Abrahamic cults promote hatred, intolerance, misogyny, murder, and genocide. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are death cults.
Take a quick look at the facts about Jehovah and Jesus. If you read the Old Testament, the overall theme of Gods forgiveness is that something must die in order for him to forgive people of their sins. If people sin, then they should be put to death. There is a long tradition of animal and human sacrifice throughout the O.T. that gradually decreases as the society of the Hebrews becomes more stable. These sacrifices end with the final sacrifice of Christ.
Lets not confuse the Old Testament term "sacrifice" with the modern meaning. Sacrifice means "to kill something of value as a gift to God"
In order for God to forgive mans collective sins, Jesus had to die. The one prophesy that Christ made that has come true is that people would kill each other, including their loved ones, in his name. Also, consider that Christians look forward to the day that Jehovah will destroy the world and kill just about everyone on the planet.
These are the foundations of the Christian cult. It all begins with Moses and his murderous invisible friend.

Christians (non-Catholics), Jews, Catholics believe in the same God. However, Christians receive that name because they follow the teachings of Christ and take him as a role model. The main problem (and main reason why there are so many churches and congregations) is that different people have a different way of understanding the teaching in the Bible. Many people also follow religions without understanding them. They do what they understand of their pastors or friends, etc.

All belief systems that believe the myths of the Bible promote a retreat from rationality and reason. It gets even worse among those who believe they are "God's chosen people" and therefore somehow better than other people. Finally its gone horribly wrong among those who think that God wants them to kill in his name. Extremist Muslims are not the only montheists who do this. In the Dark Ages Christians did it too, and even more recently extremists Christians (such has the KKK) have done it.
You may think that the Bible doesn't cause this, but as I said, its the initial denial of rationality and reason that is the root cause.

The religion IS the actions of its adherents.
In fact Christianity does teach its adherents to hate homosexuals and foreigners and Muslims and single mothers and atheists and non-Republicans. Not all Christianity, but Christianity nonetheless.
A large part of Christianity - the most vocal and well-funded part, in fact - IS horrible.

YOu are so right. What these so called "christians" do is not what the bible teaches or God. But The Majority will always rule. The more ignorant "christians" that preach these absurdities the more people will believe this. The only way to balance out the scales is to go out and preach the truth with the same strength and conviction in which they preah falsities!

Because of the same reason people bash Islam: they are afraid of the dangers of fundamentalism which dominates the news. People see the marginalization of science and medicine (stem cells, evolution), human rights (FMA), and reproductive choice. And they then see the massive negative psychological baggage of fundamentalist islam and christianity, as judgement and subjugation of the very essence of what it means to be human is all a part of it. We don't see people bashing buddhists because, as a whole, the judgement, the hate, and the persecution of others and the desire to change societies into theocracies are not there. It's a common psychological defense mechanism to try and portray a group as victims when the fact remains that they're the victimizers.
