1/2 gal milk (store brand: $2.30)
loaf of bread (store brand $1.10)
1 doz eggs ($1.28)
1lb. oleo ($.75)
1 pk bacon ($2.75)
1 pk dry beans ($1.00)
2 small onions ($.75)
2 cans pork-n-beans (2@$.99)
1 pk cold cuts (2.75)
1 small jar mustard or mayo ($1.00)
That is a total of $14.67 however larger food stores are always having sales and if you buy the store brand items then the cost would be even less. You have your breakfast foods plus you could cook the dry beans with one of the onions and 2 strips of bacon for a meal that will stretch over a few days. The cold cuts will make more than one meal also. Just be smart and look for items on sale. These estimates are on the high side and will likely cost less than stated.

I just came from the "big E" the eastern states exposition, a 5 state fair in MA. one of the exhibits was that 81 cents of every food dollar goes to packaging, marketing, office space, heat, oil, etc... so discouraging! If you are asking because you need food and that's how much money you have, I'd go for bulk foods, not packaged. Best choices for most nutritous, are nuts, rice, beans, fresh veggies not packaged (not spinach, har har har) that's about it! you can really stretch your money with a bag of dried beans that you cook yourself. (just soak and throw away the soaking water to reduce the oglicarides ...( fart producing chemical...;-) and of course cook for an hour or 2...

More than 32 packages of Top Ramen. That's enough for a month! (If you don't die from malnutrition first.)
