A friend told me there is a cream that can be applied to numb the area where you are having a tattoo done to make the process virtually pain free. If this is true I would like to know the UK product and how and when it should be applied specifically for tattoo's.

Ametop or Emla cream will work although I don't know if you can buy them over the counter also they do dialate blood vessels so might not be the best choice speak to the tatoo artist they should be able to suggest best thing. A freeze spray might be better but may wear of. Good Luck

You can get Emla cream from a gp. It's a local aneasthetic which needs to be applied 30 minutes before the tattoo or whatever you have done.

I've used a cream called "Tiger Balm" before, but because it contains cocaine there was talk of it being banned in the U.K. The best place to look for it now is probably Tottenham Court Road in London. If you're nowhere near London, then do a search on it. Best of luck, but I think you'd be better off just taking the pain, it's not as bad as you think.

If you are sensible and get it on your arm like most first tattoos then you won't feel any pain.
