What would you do if jesus came to you in a dream and said that you'd been taught many incorrect things about him, his message, and who he was, and then went on to show you what he really meant, which was very different from what they tought in church.

things like, that he wasn't the *ONLY* way to god, but that he was providing an example of a good way, as a role model, not god incarnate or the messiah.

I am NOT saying this happened to me, per se. I am asking what the christians(mainly) would do if this happened to them.

I expect that most would deny it being real, and blame the devil or some such. which I find truly ironic.

if you would NOT belive it, ... what would it take to make you belive it? that is, if jesus or god himself (depending on how you see it) coming to you personally wouldn't do the trick to show you....

lol, right, no drugs at the time.

to those who wouldn't belive it, (but belive in jesus as having existed to begin with...) is the means of delivering god's message that's been around since ... forever... not good enough for you? I mean messages have been delivered in dreams like that for a very long time... to people I'm sure you'll agree were greater than yourself.

how would a dream be a hoax? I'm not saying to start preaching it or convincing others, I mean just that for YOU and YOUR beleiefs.

RJ, what if he said that the people who said he said that, lied? that he didn't say that and they misunderstood?

Djeff, (and people of a similar view) if jesus himself coming to you personally and saying so is not enough to convince you, what would be?

seems to me like your putting more faith and trust in men than in your God and so-called savior....

and its not that he lied or anything, but that the people in control of it warped his message.

I find the responses here to be truly fascinating.

I think its very... revealing. it boggles me that people can see things this way (that you wouldn't belive it even if he came to you personally??)
I think people need to really consider why they belive what they belive, and who they truly have their faith in.

it seems hypocrytical to me to argue some points with one hand, saying to have faith in god and not men, ect... then say they wouldn't belive it if their god came to them personally and said that men had mislead them.

fascinating.

A spirit came to me in a dream. It was a high spirit I'm sure, because I saw light and felt warmth. It gave me the impression
it was Jesus, because it let me see it had long hair, and a beard.
It wAs teaching me about "Sophia". Which is a gnostic concept I don't personally accept at face value.
I didn't believe anything the spirit said.

This is a black and white issue.
Anything in disagreement with the Bible (The word of God) doesn't come from God. Therefore that hypothetical dream isn't a vision from God.
BTW The "Bible" doesn't teach that Jesus is the only way to God.
The Bible quotes Jesus himself as saying he is the only way to God.

I would think that I took a bit too much cough syrup before going to bed! I don't take seriously anything that happens in my dreams.
I think that for me (and most people) to believe something like that, it would have to be not in a dream, but in person, there would have to be video record, and it would have to be witnessed by several credible people. It would also have to be proven not to be a hoax.
Hope this helps!

It would be just what it would be.....a dream. The bible says that when Jesus returns every eye will see him. This and only this will you know that Jesus is speaking.
God does not deal with us like he did in biblical days. The next dealing he will have with us as far as a revelation goes, will be through his son coming down out of the clouds.

I think that I would have to think about it. Look at it this way, men wrote the Bible, and even some of the things they say contradict each other. I would have to pray for more dreams to clarify the matter.......This is a real dilemma :)

actually i would beleive him because the way churches portray jesus as a god and being all blond and blue eyed and " i am the only way to God" is wrong.i would believe what the quran says about him, though. it says that he is only a prophet that came to help guide people to the way of God, just like abraham and moses and muhammad.
by the way this is the holy month if ramadan and am so happy about it !!
try reading the holy quran

it could very well be a trick. Remember, God will reveal himself to the righteous and in the proper time. this to me sounds like you need to one pray about it, and number two, lok it up in the bible. remember, the old saying, "Don't say NOTHINg unless you are prepared to back it up". Well this looks like this might be the case.

If Jesus came to me in person and told me those things, I would have to believe him. If he came in a dream and told me those things I would quit eating pizza before bed time so I wouldn't have any more nightmares.

Very similar things have been happening to many people throughout the ages. Joseph Smith made this claim, and the Mormon church was born. Sun Myung Moon had a similar "vision."

The Bible tells us to measure these visions by the Word of God. God never speaks falsehood, and never contradicts His Word. If this were to happen to me, I'd ask whoever appeared to me to prove, via the Word, to prove this.

Don't think that they could.

i would not believe that , this is what the bible tells us. God is the one who wrote the bible, so why would He tell us that if it wasnt so? It would mean that he lied to us and God can not lie. He cares for us all way to much! so i hope that i have conveyed His message the best to my ability. His message is about LOVE for one another, so if you are truly caring for another, that gets his message across just by loving one another.
