Religion is the reason why there will never, ever, ever be world peace. Every religion thinks that it alone has all the answers in the universe. Members of any particular religion think that they alone (a) are right, (b) have all the answers, whether they're vocal about it or not, and most importantly, (c) have God on their side. And that last part is really dangerous sometimes. Religion drives people to do things "in the name of God" -- even if that action is totally against the best wishes of mankind, it doesn't matter, because "God told him to do it." Religion also causes a lot of people to work toward their OWN rewards (heaven, paradise, whatever you want to call it) instead of working toward the betterment of mankind. Very fanatical religious people get into this attitude that no one else matters but God -- and that, again, can be a very, very dangerous attitude to have.

If religion didn't exist, we would all just be one large group of people who are all equally curious (and ignorant, obviously) about what's going to happen to us when we die. We would all be equally clueless about what our purpose here is. We'd have ideas, obviously, but without the restraints of a bunch of thousand-year-old texts trying to tell us "the truth," we'd probably be a lot more tolerant of all ideas, and not just automatically confine ourselves to one idea and disregard all the rest.

No. Because each religion is just an expression of our search for our origins. We are looking for reasons why we are alive on this great planet, we are searching for answers and are trying to understand the unbelievable wonder that we are. Because we can´t imagine the great love of god we ever will need teachers like Budda or Jesus - so religion ever will be.

Yes. But don't think religions are the source of all evil. It's only one of the means. There would be others to get rid of, before we can call this world free from evil. What would be our next target? Money? Greed? Power? Social prestige?

If we could get rid of all religion right now, yes, that would be a good thing for the world. If on the other hand we were to get rid of all religion throughout human history, then it would be beneficial in the long run, but detrimental for us in particular. So it depends on precisely what you're asking.

Barb K: What a typical response. "NO NO NO THE KEY IS FOR EVERYONE TO JUST CONVERT TO CHRISTIANITY YOU SEE."

Screw that. It would be best if people just didn't mess around in others' religious affairs-- and stopped getting offended over inoffensive stuff like the word "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, or walking past some group having a religious discussion, or an ice cream lid at Burger King that looks very, very, very very vaguely like the Arabian symbol for 'Allah'.

The world would be better off if everyone kept their religious beliefs to themselves and didn't try to meddle in others' religious affairs.

Actually, the world would be better if they would appreciate what Jesus did for them when He died on the cross for there sins, and accepted Him as their savior.
