What would stop you from buying the product once and then making it yourself?

It's pointless for the companies to lose their recipies like that. You pay for the product for a reason, and it's not to learn how to make it.

I'm more interested in what is in a product than how much of it. Those sorts of labels would make very little difference to me personally. We try very hard not to buy things which are processed and make most of our meals from scratch or buy products that are more natural, so the few processed things that we do have really don't concern me as they're such a small part of our diet.

that would just put prices up even more because it would raise production costs. You can tell the amount of sugar & starch as it says carbohydrates (starch) of which sugars... on labels & most things now tell you how much salt. surely that's enough.

No that would be a bad idea. To many people could steal the recipe. They would make no money! :-) Plus they already do a lot just figure it out by the serving size..

i would think that typically gives away the recipe (which most food companies do not like to do)
i have never seen that before so go figure
guess they don't care

Don't they already do that somewhat...they don't want to be too exact though because they want to keep their recipe SECRET.
