I hope you are referring to a crt and not an lcd tv!!?? Don't use anything but special cleaning wipes or spray for lcd or you will damage the plastic. If it's glass, use an anti-static foam cleaner from Maplins or similar.

IPA (Isoproply Alcohol) AKA tape head cleaner, on Methylated Spirits from a local paint or hardware store.
Also concider a trip to Halfords and get some automotive glass cleaner / fluid.

Vinegar and water should do the trick. Its far better than window or glass cleaner. Just make sure you mix something like 1:1. Put it in a spray bottle or just in a glass for one time use. Hope it helps.

REad the instruction manual that will tell you the correct cleaning method to use.Be careful what u use cos it could invalidate the warranty ...If u can't get rid of it maybe it's a manufacturing fault..Chk with the retailer or manufacturer.

when i worked in tv store we used to use pledge but make sure its wax free, dont just rub a circle in the middle or youll end up looking through a ships porthole effect, many old people do that lol , why have i got a circle in midddle of screen was common question

A drop of meths on a microfibre cloth does the trick. Great for mirrors too.

white spirits should remove reisdue. then keep clean with Mr Sheen - contains "Dustguard" that reduces static and keeps the dust away longer.
