I believe that many times man has a preconceived idea what God should be like. Some see Him as a God of love. So they don't understand how He can send someone to hell. Others see Him as a God of vengeance so they don't understand how He could save a rapist or murdered who later in life accepts Jesus as his Savior.

Rather than understanding who God is in His totality we try to create God in our image. Make Him fit what we believe not mold our beliefs to His when the two conflict.

That is why Jesus was not accepted by many as the Messiah. He did not fit their preconceived ideas of who and what the Messiah would be. The Jews were looking (and are still looking) for an earthly deliverer. Someone who militarily or otherwise would return to destroy Rome (today those who oppress Israel) and return Israel to prominence.

That is not what God intended Jesus to be. He returned to seek and save the lost. All Christians are now the true house of Israel.

as said, the bottom line is he simply was not the messiah by jewish standards.

and since its judaism that had the whole "messiah" thing to begin with, thats kinda an important technicality.

"the jews" didn't expect this "spiritual salvation" thing because WE ALREADY HAD THAT! it was the great king leading judaism and the world to peace and heaven on earth, more or less that was, and is, still what is waited for.

from the jewish point of view, the proof that jesus was not the messiah, is blatantly obvious, all you have to do is look out the window, or read a newspaper.

if the messiah had come, ... well it'd be obvious, and it obviously has not happened yet.

edit: "What happens when, as he eventually must, the great hero dies?"
thats part of the whole deal, while it'd be a physical thing to start with, the whole world as we know it would change, and this would not be an issue.

The Jews were not looking for a Spiritual Messiah, they were looking for a Messiah-King, like David, who would raise and army and defeat the Romans and set Israel up as the Ruler of Nations in the earth. There are prophecies that point to the idea of God appearing in His Temple, but those are mostly overlooked. There are people still, to this day, who are looking for that great Davidic Messiah-King's appearing...I have to wonder, though, how do they expect this man, if he were to appear, to accomplish any lasting "peace on earth"?? What happens when, as he eventually must, the great hero dies?
Exactly what has always happened in Jewish history, whenever God has sent them a "Deliverer"...they have a short time basking in the reflected glow, but then, they slide right back down into the nastiness they had just gotten "rescued" from. Like the rest of humanity, they just can't hold on to what God has given them......

At the time Jesus was claiming that he was the Messiah, there were no less than 18 other Messiah claimants in the city of Jerusalem. At the time, Jerusalem was under siege. Given that the biblical prophesy stated that the Messiah was a man of war who would deliver the Jews, and none, and I mean NONE of the Messiah claimants were able to save Jerusalem, is it any wonder that the Jewish people, the ones who actually HAD and WROTE said prophesy, did not believe this Jesus fellow?

well each paritcular group has its own reasons. Hindus and buddhists dont have a messiah concept at all so the whole idea doesnt make sense to them. Those religions dont really emply the same concepts of sin and reprentance i nthw way christiniaty does.

Judaism holds that Jesus could not have been the true messiah bcause he did not fulfill biblical prophesy. christians of coure claim otherwise. In my opinion, A person ahs the right to belive any or all of the new testament if they want, but the refenences to Jesus in the so called old testament are nonexistent.

The people that did not accepted Him as the Messiah and till today they don't , are / were external and spiritually blind people.
They expected Him to come as a miracle; on the clouds , with gold all over Him or other way of external wealth.
Only those who believe and are open hearted will see the Messiah in Jesus.

Because he didn't exist.

The Jesus myth was invented by Jews displaced when Rome destroyed Jerusalem in 135 CE.

Hebrews did NOT "prophecy" the "messiah" would come out of the clouds and any other such nonsense. Anyone who claims to have a degree in theology and makes such a claim needs to seek a refund or return the degree he didn't earn.

Hebrews are waiting for an earthly king just like the mythical David or Solomon. They are not waiting for Superman or "God."

Jesus fulfilled no Old Testament prophecies. NONE.

It was prophesied that he would be rejected by his own.
The religious hierarchy at the time had already decided what type of messiah they wanted. A materialist messiah who would rule as a worldly king.
Jesus did not fit the bill.
Anti-Christ will fit the bill when he comes.

Jesus was just one of a number of Messiahs on offer at the time - difficult to tell from this vantage point how market share was determined.
