We have a dog and when my mum gives him insulin, he jumps and cries. What should we do? (We already use super small needles)

I had a diabetic cat until he passed on a year or so ago. I used to prepare the needle and sit it on the counter, sit a very small stool next to the counter, and pick up my cat. I'd get him situated on my lap so his back feet were closer to my dominant hand and hanging off of my legs, and where his front feet were resting off the other side of my legs. He didn't have anything to push off of if he wanted to jump, although he never really tried to get away. After the cat was ready, I'd grab the needle, make a "tent" from his scruff, give the injection, and help him down. All of that is assuming that you can put your dog in your lap, of course :)

Just pet him and talk to him. Soothe him to let him know that you still love him. You can give him a treat of somekind, my dog likes pig ears, you can get them at Wal-Marts or your local pet store.

Thanks,

One of you hold him, the other show him something that interests him (Play toy, chew treat?), bunch up the skin between his shoulderblades, immediately thereafter, allow him to play with his reward. Operant conditioning.
