Select the cells you want to merge, then click the button on the toolbar that looks like a "A" with two arrows facing left and right, most likely next to the alignment buttons.

Select the cells

right click

format cells

allignment tab

select the merge cells tick box

or click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like a white square with an a in it and arrows pushing sideways

Highlight the cells and then go to Format>>Cells>>Alignment and select the merge cells check box at the bottom.

On the Tool Bar....Format>Cells>Alighnment>Check Merge Cells
