Does anyone do it or know someone that does it? What stakes do they play and how many hours a week do they play?

Absurd no one mentioned this but I'm not surprised. To answer your question, yes some win at online poker, but over the long haul, you DON'T. Why cause you are dealing with a RNG (Random Number Generator) that is a software program that is used on all online poker sites. All poker sites state they are fair and have this tested, but since there is not enforcement from the U.S.; there is no guarantee that its on the up and up.. now compound that will house players, (yeah they do exist) and collusion from players who purchase bot programs, (research Ebay if you want to find these), and review all TOS agreements, which offer conflicting views about these programs. Many sites say they scan computer systems for these programs, or some just say in an email that they do, and everyone leaves uninterested in dealing with the hassles they throw at your way.

Online poker is a 4 Billion dollar industry. It's not regulated, all servers are overseas.. and if are on a winning streak, it's definiate you won't stay that way. IF you play any level of poker and are dilgent about your winnings, loses, and can track probability and statistics, and have an understanding that online poker is harder, due to crackpots, playing junk hands, or chasing , etc, and you can pay close attention,, and chart individual players, then forget it,, spend $20 on a movie and popcorn.

Online poker is meant for amatueurs, who dont' mind shelling out $50 a week just to have a bit of fun, but serious players, do not play online. Doyle Brunson is only paid for his image and voice, it's not his site. I can name a ton more, Mike Sexton, Daniel Negreneau, Phil Ivey.

Online poker forums are full of claims against "bad beat" players to minimize the issue, and to subject criticism on individual players, basically to downplay their ability and say they just suck at online poker. Pros are endorsed to play on sites, don't play with their own money, and it's only to promote the site.

I've played 12 hours a day for 2 years, and now only play at my local B&M. I've played from .2/4 on up, to 10/20 and lost thousands of dollars, and won that much back. Anyone who generally either support poker sites, is either, a moderator from the site, or someone who doesn't lose that much online and is basically a fish (or small timer).

I expect criticism from my comment, but either way, I've answered your question, and know that I'm correct. I even wish that there was an HONEST online site, but it can't be, there can't be,, as the funding from the millions offered each day just go back into the site, they aren't paid to the average gamer that sits at home on Friday night.

If you can be armed with all this information, and research, but this involves some very complicated DLL programming, server exchanges, probability charts, and serious background on player styles, then perhaps , at that point, you have some advantage,, but still I doubt it,, the house can see/predict the flop and their is software that proves it. Just think, if you are that good of a poker player, that programming of RNG is by a human, which can be manipulated by a human.

I play only my local B&M now, and if you want to research my credentials. I've won over 5K in 6 months, but most don't and can't afford my bankroll. Play online in the play money and have some fun, but it's not a get rich scheme, by far. I wish you luck, but either way, you're more informed.
I've played on FullTilt, Pokerstars, Pokeroom, ESPN, DoylesRoom, TitanPoker, ParadisePoker, and am also affiliated with the Women's Poker Club, and Pokerconduct.com

I'd love to see legalized here in the U.S. so that is can be monitored. Good luck!

Poker For A Living

I have for the last two years. To make a good living JUST playing poker you need to play at least 5/10 limit or NL 400.

But, you can make a lot of extra money in bonuses and rakeback. I currently get 30% rakeback on http://www.fortune-poker-rakeback.com and can realistically bring in an extra 300-400 dollars just from rakeback.

I'd make more but I also play a lot of bonuses. Check out a site like http://www.ultimatepokerbankroll.com in a good month I bring in at least 300 dollars in reloads and maybe play a sign up bonus or two from their 500 dollar guide.

Doing bonuses and rakeback you could probably make 15-20 dollars an hour just playing 1/2 or 2/4 limit or 1/2 NL.

If you don't have the money to play those stakes check out the 100 dollar bankroll guide on Ultimatepokerbankroll, that can help you turn 100 into a bankroll suitable for playing 1/2 in about a month.

It all depends on your skill level and your understanding of the game. There are some people who have very good skills and do make a living off of on-line poker. I deal poker in Las Vegas and i know of a couple of people who play poker for their living. As far as hours played and the stacks you play at are determined by your bankroll and how much you want to win or lose. I myself don't play for big money on-line, i tend to have more success playing in a brick and mortar casino. I do supplement some of my income with poker winnings, but i am not consistent enough to do it for a living, you have to be able to handle the big downswings in your bankroll. If i buy into a 5/10 or 10/20 game and i reach my goal of what i want to leave with then i quit, and if i go below a certain amount i also quit. In the end it is a hard way to make money, you have to be extremely talented to do so. good luck.

My friend does it on FTP. He's making something like $20 an hour, and does it for like...20 hours a week? I think he plays $.25/.50 stakes and a few tournaments here and there.

If you have the discipline to play online, power to ya. I tried it before and it got really boring. I prefer live games personally. Hope I could help.

I make my living playing online poker. I play about 30 hours per week, work from home and run a website advising others.

You CAN do it, it's hard work and testing, but rewarding!

i think you can, but I think you're better off playing poker in person since you can see the person you're up against. Also, some people online use odds calculators and references so more than likely everyone online uses those. If you're playing in person, They have to memorize it in their head and will seperate the pros from the amateurs.

If you sponsor the site of course.
Vegas makes money cause 95% of people lose money daily.
Online gambling is really a "dumb" move.
Go to Atlantic city -Reno-Vegas. The pros don't play casino
style- (the odds always favor house) they play against each other and suckers.
