About the only thing you can do is put ice on it when you are at home. If you can stand the cold! And wrap your torso in a wide ACE Bandage. If you don't have one then make a large wrap out of material of some kind like a sheet, towel, curtain? Just something big enough to go around you and secure it. Not so tight that it hurts, but snug enough for a little pressure & so the fabric stays in place.
It will help the pain when you move around or bump it. That way you can still do some activity. Thats about all the Doc would do except maybe pain pills. You definitely ned to loosen it if it hurts to breath, and you should take some deep breaths very often so you won't get an infection in your lungs like pneumonia or something.
It will get better in a week or so. Make sure it is not broken, fractured, or seperated! See the links below for that.

You don't indicate how you got the injury or whether you have seen a doctor to have the cause of the pain diagnosed. Sometimes self diagnosis is dangerous. If you have inflammation somewhere, a good anti-inflammatory medication sometimes helps (Ibuprofin as an example). But pain in your chest can radiate from one side to the other, you might have something wrong with a lung or your heart, a strained muscle, or a cracked or broken rib. You really need to have a doctor tell you the best treatment because we can only speculate as to what the cause is and give an answer based on a best guess at best. The wrong treatment could kill you if it is something serious.
