A job shows them what the real world is like. They get their own money. And it taught my children the importance of staying in school and going on to college.
They still had time for their homework and after school sports.
They were busy and it also, kept them out of trouble with all the highschool parties and "girl drama" that goes on during the weekend.

no, I don't believe it is a disadvantage but that depends. I believe a job teaches them responsibility in the work force. However as a parent you must have strict guidelines. For instance: A job will get your child extra money which is an advantage for the child. BUT a job also may take away from studies which is a disadvantage for the child. So parents should enforce that the child may keep the job IF they keep their grades up. Otherwise it is back to the old grind. I know parents don't always do that and it's too bad.

No, it's a big advantage and you'll learn more about the real world than you ever will in school. The system doesn't want you out in the world doing something and earning.
If you actually become really successful in some sort of part-time endeaveor, the teachers would probably be so angry, they'd bag their heads on the chalkboard. That would be after 3:15, though - during the day they'd smile and pretend they were happy.

Not a disadvantage... Junior and Senior year is OK, Freshman or Sophomore no...limit the hours to 3:30-8PM and about 20 per week! Parents make sure your kid is doing their homework, and have fun when they look at their first paycheck and see just where all the money goes for taxes!!! Try to guess how many welfare families you are supporting....the fun is that you get all your tax money back when you file your taxes if you make under a certain amount per year! But file your taxes!!! Get your money back. So many students don't and loose all that tax money!!!!!! And please enjoy your work. Don't pick a job that you don't want to do! It will get real old real fast!

not having a job in high school is fine, as long as you don't expect to have a car, or go out with your friends on the weekend.... A PT job teaches yougn adults how to manage thier time, and responsibility. People who let thier kid sit around and not work don't realize that high school isn'teven half as bad / hard as the students make it out to be.... if they would stop complaining about it, and just do the minimum that is asked of them, they would pass with no problems

I think it's an advantage, if the student is able to handle it. It's allowed my daughter to meet and interact with people in different settings other than h.s., provided her extra $$ and given her a good sense of responsibility. It also uses up free time that could also be used to get in trouble, party, etc. As long as she keeps her grades up, I let her work - but it's always been her choice.

If the student is a Senior, then my answer to you will be a "NO" because there are programs in their high school that will allow they to enter the business world from that date on and not only get paid but also get graded for it.
With me, I did this many years back and I was happy that I did it.

Yes and No. Yes because they may have too much to deal with school and a job. No because they can learn to take responsibilty fro themselves. I think that question is open to many possibilities.

it's an advantage. unless the teenager is spoiled by rich parents, it will teach them that they have to work to earn and buy things they want.
