some feel they need to make certain the last resting place is kept looking nice. since the soul and spirit has departed only the container is there. there are respects which can be paid by the living to the departed to honor and remember them. as long as one person remembers the departed will never be forgotten. seriously doubt there is one person who wants to be forgotten once they leave this plane of existence so one must remember others if they want to be remembered in return.

Good question. Perhaps they feel by physically standing near the deceased's body they can somehow connect. That is why I wish to be cremated. I figure my children will grow and move around the country as they are wont to do and I think they should carry me with them in their hearts wherever they are. If they want to speak to me I want them to be able to do it wherever they are comfortable. I want to be remembered through memories of the good times we had not to hold them to visiting me in a cold, dreary graveyard somewhere.
