It coats the hair and then hardens....the harder the hold the stiffer the hair will be....depending on the brand and the ammount of silicone in the gel will be how much the gel will build up on your hair...gel can leave your hair dry because it has alcohol in it which helps it dye in a timely manner...I don't know what else you want to know about gel other than its a styling product more popular for mens shory spikey hair

it can make your hair:
1) Curly- if ur hispanic and u use h20 also
2) brittle and dry
3) Flakey
4) Really hard
