What part of illegal is confusing? It simply means "against the law". And the last time I checked, those who break the law in this country are held accountable for their actions. So why do "illegal immigrants" expect anything more than prosecution? And why do they get anything other than prosecution? If I, as a taxpayer and legal citizen, break a law, I have to pay the consequences. What makes illegal immigrants immune to the law? Because they are here illegally? That tells me they are willing to break laws, which are designed to keep our society in check. Where is the confusion at? Illegal means against the law, period. There is no gray area. There are legal ways to immigrate - people do it every day. Our social programs were intended to care for our citizens who required assistance, not for those who start their stay here by breaking a law to be here in the first place.

Does anyone else see how infinitly simple this really is?

I agree with you 100%...
A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!

It explains things better than what you hear on TV:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he, too, is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for, well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is? Only in America!

You are definitely not ignorant. The only ones that are ignorant are the people that help smuggle mexicans across the border, the ones that hire them under the table, the ones that pay them lower wages instead of paying Americans fair wages, the ones that rent apartments to them, the ones that know someone is illegally here and don't report it, and worst of all, the ones in our government who aren't doing a thing about them. Those are the people that are ignorant.
If people come here illegally, they are already breaking the law coming in here, and don't stop there! It is illegal to get a job here without the proper papers, it is illegal to get a drivers license here without being a citizen. It is illegal to rent apartments without showing proof.
They break law after law, and still people fight for them. Then only way i feel sorry for them is that they weren't brave enough to try to change their own country. It is not the United States of America's responsibility to take care of mexico's citizens, yet they openly promote coming here and sending money back! They are actually handing out maps now that show how far you can walk in a days time, where its dangerous, where water is, and so forth.
Every American needs to donate to the minute men so that they can build more of the wall that the government is not. Yes, our government has a plan to do it, but we need action right now, because I have had enough with talk.
People say that we are akin to nazis when we talk about not supporting people that are invading our country, sorry, we aren't alike with them at all, although I'm sure we agree on this issue. They also hate Americans, I just hate people that don't have the decency to ask to come into my country.

Margie, you are so right!! Yet, they think we should change our laws to suit THEM! People from other countries accept our laws. They come here the legal way. If they were here illegally they have corrected that by going home and entering the LEGAL way. Those that whine and cry about our laws and want us to change them are ignorant and just don't understand that we don't change laws for illegal people. Our laws are there for a reason. We DON'T want a large group of POOR people here. WE DO want to control WHO comes here and HOW MANY come here. We want to screen those who come here for prior criminal activity and for contagious DISEASE. WE HAVE THAT RIGHT. It is OUR LAW and WE WILL ENFORCE IT.

Infinitly simple. Thank you.

How many times can you use the word "illegal" in a single paragraph? Can't you get it through your head? NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL!!! They are undocumented citizens who come here for a better life. They are honest people NOT criminals. Their purpose in this country emulates that of our founding fathers. They wanted to build a great country open to ALL immigrants. It's what makes this country great.

This country will never deport undocumented immigrants. It would go against all this country stands for. "Bring us your poor huddled masses yearning to be free...". Did you ever hear that quote or do you even know American History?

Again who said those of us that supported the pro side were confused not confused just that we think for the most part that those laws could be made differently. Laws are changed and it does happen that the laws that need to be changed are broken until they are changed.

This is why i support the fence...although it's only 700 miles long. It's a start though. I don't support the guest-worker program. The guest-worker program is like saying "Well, now that you broke a big law, I will let you do what you want and let you stay here for your entire life as long as you do a little work for us".

Maybe we should also send someone to Mexico to teach those people about birth control. If they weren't having 8 or 9 kids per family they could afford to live where they're at.

I agree with you! But it is not ignorance. They give the illegal immigrants a lot of attention. But they are never open. By open I mean that they never tell anything like that to the news reporters.
