It depends on your cosciousness at the time of death, which depends on your way of life and on propensities on desires which you develop. For example, if somebody becomes very attached to sleeping, they could be born as bear and have chance to sleep all winter long. Or if somebody is attached to eating flesh, they could become tiger. If somebody is attached to sex, they could become pigeon or monkey and have sex many times a day. Or if you become very attached to your pet dog, you can be born as dog.
You can also develop higher qualities and take birth on the planets of demigods. But the best thing is to revive your spiritual identity, your God consciousness by means of bhakti-yoga and at the time of leaving present body go back to the kingdom of God. There you will have your eternal spiritual body and you will never again have to experience birth, death, old age and disease.
The way of reviving your God consciousness is very simple. You have to chant these names:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare
