Just so you know, I'm not asking for help on my work. It's an individual reflection that's already been handed in two days ago. However, it'll probably take 2 months for the teachers to finish marking everything, so I'd like your opinions in order to see what I left out and what I didn't. Your help is very much appreciated. Those who came with readily accusing fingers, sorry for not making it clear in the first place.

The theme of forbidden love will never grow cold. R & J is heart-wrenching and beautifully written, which makes it cathartic when someone is in the same situation. We want to read about people that feel the same way we do--it makes us feel understood and less lonely. Even if we don't share the circumstances, we all have the need to experience emotions. Badly written fiction doesn't work. Shakespeare comes close to mimicking the subtleties of the paths of human emotions. It's the difference of experiencing a real love affair, or watching a 15 minute cartoon about love.

Is this a school project your working on ?
well when it comes to plot and the characterd they are timeless- why with shakespear who created them..
Actually, for my own sentiment .. I think why its lasting that much in this world of ours because NOBODY could do what those 2 LOVERS have done . Imagine dying and killing your ownself for that someone .. thats a rare passion. Most of the people these are a coward to fall into such very strong passion.. the characters are very tough..in reality it does not fit at all..thats the reason why it last .. for that reason alone the ROME & JULIET will last forever.. ;-)

Romeo and Juliet I think is so popular because it shows how strong their love for each other was and that's what real love should be all about. Their parents were from different sides of the track some would say and they weren't suppose to be together but because they loved each other soooo much they died together to show their parents that no matter what they would be together and they should have let them and get over the "I'm better than you attitude".

I think it is still relevant because people are still going to fall in love with those they are probably not supposed to, and people are still going to be socially ignorant, even in large families, groups & numbers. The mob still and always rules and it's all fun and games, speeches by Mercutio's in public squares on love and dreams and the women who rule them... until someone get's hurt.
Many times in literature, the intelligent writers, those who actually took the time to observe the human condition in their lives and surroundings marked the familiar and obvious and made art of it. People love it because it is so obvious and it is how people can see their own condition, through the eyes of someone else and accept it, by example.
It is still great today, because even after 400 years. Families still fight, race and culture and wealth and station, still rule the day among the classes and even though we do have SOME tolerance in the misshapen form of Political correctness and those who practice it and preach it, it still seems though that old money, is a class to itself and little changes between the kinds of people who run in aristocratic families of power and politics.
I mean... can you imagine the drama that would ensue if one of the Bush girls brought home an Argintinian Prince or an Arab Dignitary over Christmas Holiday? It would be Romeo and Juliet all over again.
Only not quite as eloquent because we have the whole Texas vs Verona thing going on... Rather than doing the Maresca... they would have a ho down at the BBQ Pit! LOL!
Heee hawww... My daddies Missle silo is taller than your daddies missle silo! Now lets spick a pig and roast it.... Hooo doggie. Hey... Aint that thar one of them arabs from the Bin Laden family sneekin around? Pappy... We need to get rid of him now! Now now Jeb... Lets leave him be, I aint gonna have that thar sorta thing here in my & my son's big white house. This here is a ho down not a rag head hunt.
and Romeo Laden... catches the eye of the perdy little filly... the little Bush girl. and they fall hopelessly in love.
LOL... I wish... that would be funny as hell!

because the plot is unbelievable.. that it teaches not only the essence of love but the value of life and loved ones. the language of the book hold so much richness that even though we dont understand it word for word, we still capture the real story.
it will remain an epic forever.

Well... I won't do your homework for you... but I will say that Romeo and Juliet is overrated. It's a nicely written romance, but it's nothing special. It's popular because it's simple. Simplicity enthralls the masses.

Because it follows what is now a time tested plot, boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back. Most highly successful dramas follow the same plot line.

I'll pick the characters and plot. The plot as it was flawless and unique, enough to grab anyone's attention. Sad endings are widely appreciated. People like the play as they can relate to their lives with the characters and stories.
