does this make any sense? It's like the nicer and kinder you are the less respect they give. The more someone is rude , mean and arrogant, they more people aer friendly to them.

Rude to nice helpful people:
- helpful people are seen as easy pickings;
- the mental attribution of the meanest survive;
- mental attribution linked to upbringing and neighbourhood;
- never worked with a group of people, used to the mean streets;
- mean people have received the end of the stick; pre-emptive strikes are better; avoid getting hurt; shoot first ask later;
- mean people have seen others receiving the end of the stick; Why chance it; shoot first ask later;
- there is no free lunch; onset of suspicion triggered when on the receiving end of a perceived favour; "This person wants something";
- a helpful person may mean more mileage; exploit now as you will be exploited later and have been exploited;
- in a predominanently negative environment, it's the "in"-thing;
some behavioural studies showed that being negative with a negative crowd was most beneficial for the individual, given that everybody are going down the pipeline anyway; however, it does not apply in an overall socially positive society where alienation is likely;
- it costs nothing of the individual to be rude to someone who is already giving a "freebee";
- illusory sense of control.

Friendly and nice to really rude mean people:
- even predators know the order of the foodchain;
- why aggravate when the other is already aggressive;
- a call of cards; adding fuel to fire might mean a show down, loosing face and a trip to the hospital is not a plus point;
- redirection and keeping a low profile away from the direction of anger and rudeness;
- mean people are usually seen as the ones with power or money; true if you were in Mogadishu or a similarly corrupt state, except there is little hypocrisy when it comes to a show of cards;
- a possibility of association with the mean; a chance to rise in society assuming opportunities are there.

I have discovered that. I'm the type of person that will go out of my way for someone else but when I'm in need (which is rare) nobody's around to help me.

It's kinda like those people that get dropped off somewhere because they know that you're there and you're dumb enough to give them a ride home. Happens to me all the time.

Ever heard the old saying nice guys finish last? Mean people feel empowered over nice people. The mean people think that the nice people are weak so they are rude to them. They should not be fooled though. Nice people can turn mean too when mistreated.

I know how you feel. There is no excuse for rudeness. If people like to make friends with the nasty people, it shows their true character. I have the awful habit of holding my tongue as I cannot bear to see someone's face drop over something I have said.
I wish I had the ability to know when to really let rip though!

Those people have no respect for themselves. They have no true opinion of anything. It is easier for them to be nice to rude people because then they don't have to stand up for anything. Keep being who you are and don't give it another thought. You could spend a life time trying to understand how their mind works and it would be a waste of time.

there's a chinese saying (translated loosely):
would rather offend a gentleman than a mean person or a woman

because the gentleman (kind people) will not mind but the mean person might just take revenge.
