Product buildup is what causes dull hair. Use Neutrogena weekly anti-buildup shampoo in addition to your regular shampoo (Pantene Ice Shine works well). Follow with a shine spritz (Citre Shine is good but there are many that work). There is also a new product in the hair dye section by Clairol Natural Instincts called Shine Happy, which is basically the home version of the glaze stylists use after color treating. You can use it once a month for a more permanent gloss and it will not damage your hair.
One more thing - take a knee-length nylon stocking and put it over your brush, then brush your hair with it. The nylon catches all the build-up and you can actually see what your regular shampoo is leaving behind. It's gross but it will make your hair shine.

All depends what colour hair you have? If your blonde you wont get a shine as blondes never do. But try Tigi products they have shampoos and actually spray and shine products.
