Your car employs, I would imagine, a device called a CAN bus, which simply put is a computer in your car that controls all of the body electrics, gone are the days when a simple switch controlled things, anyway, I think that perhaps the ignition switch could be giving out a rogue signal to the CAN controller which is interpreting it as the signal given from the boot release button. Has the ignition key got a boot release button, could it be that you are pressing the button when turning the key? Just a couple of thoughts. If its the CAN bus I would leave that to a Volvo dealer to sort it, they can interrogate the controller with their software and get to the root quickly.

Perhaps there is another explanation....

Could it be that when you twist the key to start the engine you inadvertently press the boot release button?

I had a Mercedes, and on that there was a similar problem, except it was that the alarm was being set, which resulted in the alarm going off within about 30 seconds.

If my suggestion is not the solution, check out the Daily Telegraph's Honest John website. I think it is:-

I hope this helps....

positioned the key in, in case you won't be able to turn it, hit the key with the palm of your hand, or use a rubber hammer, then attempt turning the key, in many circumstances after some circumstances of hitting the suitable portion of the key into the cylinder along with your palm, it unlocks and also you may turn it on
