She is probably talking about your wisdom teeth. If a tooth is impacted, that means it is still beneath your gum line.

Here's one example of an impacted wisdom tooth. The wisdom tooth is not pointing the the same direction as the other teeth and it can't come into the mouth because of that. It's being blocked out by the other tooth.

http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/wizdk.jpg shows one impacted wisdom tooth over on the right side of the picture. This picture shows a cavity on the second molar, too, but you do not need to have decay in order to call a tooth impacted. It just means "blocked from erupting." It is fairly commom to see impacted upper canines (cuspids, eye teeth) as well.

Usually the impacted teeth are the wisdom teeth (3rd Molars) at the back of the Lower jaw. The lower jaw bone curves upwards at the back of your mouth and a lot of times the back teeth follow this curve and come in sideways. These teeth cannot fully erupt (as they are not coming in straight, but on an angle) and they begin to push all of the other teeth forward. This can cause crowding as well as gum infections. It is almost always necessary to have these teeth removed (extracted). Hope this helps.

Your tooth (usually the wisdom teeth, but not always), is coming in at an angle that is not optimal. In the process it is grinding against already existing teeth, and creating infection in the surrounding gum. Impacted teeth can not usually be straightened by any means, and are removed to diminish pain and infection.

It means that your teeth are crowded together and that one tooth is so crowded that it has begun to shift. This is bad because you can get an infection because your teeth are too close together to floss and brush properly. Also, the more impacted the tooth becomes the more it hurts.

It means it is pressing against the tooth next to it with no gap between them. Next time the dentist says something you don't understand, ask fo an explaanation.

"Impacted" in a $50 word meaning it didnt' grow out properly and it is still in the gum.
You will most likley have to have it taken out.
It could have happend because there wasn't enough room for the tooth to come down right (for example if your teeth are crowed)
or if it were trying to come down at the wrong angle (I had one do that to me once)
But still the word 'impacted' just means its still in the gum and hasn't come down.

I think she means it is not fully exposed out of the gum. It is stuck in the gum area. I think.

it means that you are older than the age that the tooth was supposed to grow and it hasn`t. & now its beneath the bone of you jaw. so you should get some treatment(orthodontic or surgery)
