Wasn't it a little politically-correct to assume that all of the upper class is as greedy as the Pharisees were? I mean, Bill Gates is rich, and he's not a greedy dipstick.

Why did Jesus hate the rich and powerful?

He does not despise the rich.
It is greed and the love of money there is issues with.

Putting faith in money rather than the Kingdom is what the lesson pertains to.

Well, I don't think Jesus hated anybody. But he had a real problem with the majority of rich people because they have a really skewed viewpoint on the world. It's hard to sympathize with the plight of the poor when you've never experienced it yourself. I'm sure he was just pissed off these spoiled people had no idea what life was really like for normal people.

Where did u find this information? I have never heard that before. I think he was more attracted to those lowly, and humble because a lot of times they tended to be more sincere about what they gave; when they gave it. Also, Jesus showed he had empathy and did not look down upon anyone regardless of their monetary status. He was interested in saving lives, and not impressed with wealth. However, I think it might be a little extreme to say he despised any human being................

Jesus Loved those Rich People, but knew how hard it would be for them to Believe in HIM instead of Believing in Riches.
They had made a Religion out of being Rich.
People don't like giving up their Religions.
Makes them feel good.
Keeps them away from Life.
Keeps them away from Jesus.

The rich and powerful in his time were the Romans and their Jewish collaborators who ruled Palestine. The Romans were seen as occupiers by the common people and their culture was viewed as immoral and heathen by pius Jews. Jesus as the leader of a Jewish populist political movement was echoing this sentiment.

The early christian church under Paul took this thinking one step further. They disliked wealth because they felt it would lead to corruption, egotism and sin. This is because it takes one's focus off of God and the spiritual world, which is invisible and eternal, and onto the material (earthly) world which will die.

Jesus didn't hate the rich, he just pointed out that the rich tend to worship their money instead of Him. The rich all too often lose focus on who made them rich.

I don't think it was the being rich he objected to, I think it was the fact that these rich people were sitting on their keisters and not doing anything to help their fellow man, which, at that point in time, most lived in a shocking level of poverty.

Because most people do. If the writers had said that Jesus hated the poor and uneducated, the cult wouldn't have started.

Of course Jesus never existed.

He does not hate rich or powerful people. He may not like their choices related to His gift of money or power.

Because he said you can`t worship 2 gods, Money and Jesus.
in that time the poor followed him because they needed faith, the rich didn`t think they needed faith if they had money.
