A four month old kitten does not need to nurse anymore, when he starts trying to suck distract him with a toy. Something on a string is best, especially if it has a bell on it, visit your local pet store and load up on cat toys!

Hi,
There is a product new to the market that is called:
Indy's Pacifier Toy
The kitten pacifier can be purchased from http://www.fencewalkers.com which is a cat rescue, or direct from the inventor C..A..Remington at webwalker@frys.com.
The pacifier designed specifically for orphan kittens that after being bottle fed have the need to continue nursing.
The pacifier quickly becomes a familiar toy and like a child's safety blanket or teddy bear, will be eventually out grown.
In the mean time the kitten will stop nursing on your clothes, bedding, ear lobes, fingers, and to her siblings ...etc.
The need to nurse quenches a need to feel safe, protected and replace a mother the kitten may have been taken from too soon in life.
Hope this helps

Kittens usually start weaning from its mum @5/6 weeks old shouldn't still be looking for its mum certainly not at 4mths, it should be solid food and water. I have foster loads of kittens that have been found straying from 4 weeks to 16 weeks, from 4 weeks i used a syringe to feed them kitten milk, Get from any vets. But its also a sign of affection when the bite you. My 5mth old sits down every evening and bites and choose on all my fingers, can be sore.
Try some toys as a distraction

At 4 months old he is NOT too young to be taken from his mommy. Kittens can leave their moms at 8 weeks. Sometimes kittens and cats just like to suck on things, he may grow out of this and he may not. Not to worry just LOVE he.

HI.. just as all of your other answers have said,, distract with toys but i have to say that in my experience with the same situation the behavior of sucking on or looking to nurse upon anything on you could continue,, for my kitty it continued on as a regular behavior until over 2 years old at which point became just a loving sign of affection and a hint that he needed attention.. so hang in.. and love the heck out of your kitty , it couldn't really hurt all that much.. keep smiling :) oh if still unsure ,, ask your vet.

Some people actually find this behavior "charming". Try to be forebearing about it. It is an emotional need and you should be a tolerant as possible.
I wonder if the kitten would respond to a baby pacifier. It might be worth a try. It will be interesting to see what others have done about this "problem".

Build a "nesting box" for it and bottle feed it with cats milk. You should find it at any pet supply store.
