I talk out scenarios in my head only my lips make the movements as if I am speaking the words - I catch myself doing it all the time and sometimes even tell myself off for doing it - and yes you guessed it I even mouth the words when I tell myself off! Am I odd or do heaps of people do this? I have depression and anxiety along with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue I dont suppose this goes with any of them - at least not on any site I have seen on these subjects

I do that too, and when I catch myself doing it in public I feel like a crazy person. I usually do it when I'm nervous about something I have to do later, and I'm thinking about what I'm going to say.

It's nice to find out I'm not the only person who does that, but I'll probably still feel embarrased when I catch myself doing it on the bus.

At my age .. maybe I'm headed for fibromyalgia , and many times chronic fatigue. Been talking to myself since I was young..anxious or depressed not part of my personality. In fact if someone were watching me now.. they might recommend a good therapist.. that poor woman needs to talk things out with someone other than herself. The point is.. I don't feel it has hurt me in any way.. some of my best thinking has been talking to myself.

I'm worse than that , I say things, that I don't even think about , that make no sense. Mostly when driving. It's really embarrassing when I have passengers. There's a silence and then , out of the blue , I'll say. Get the pumpkin.

My doctor says , I have a lot on my mind.

I have seen my employees Do as you say. Move there lips with nothing coming out, usually when they are concentrating on something.

Im sure theres nothing wrong. I do it all the time, its just like singing to a song everytime its on radio. Its a habit - good or bad? thats up to you to decide - dont let a psychologist or anyone else for that matter tell you that its right or wrong.

Um... my younger sis has been doing that since she was a toddler and when she writes, her mouth would contort a little, but no sound would escape.
She's not depressed, has no issues, and is the genius of the family as well as in her school.
It's not a problem the way I see it, just a quirk.

my dear, you have the answer rite in front of you....You are depressed. You really need to talk to someone about your problems. I once had a problem llike yours. I was very depressed and once i started talking to someone...real person about them i began to feel better i even stopped. Have you noticed that when you are very upset at times you start mumbling to your self? dont wory jus look for some one you trust and talk your problems out, loudly, you will get better. In Setswana we say " Oska wara go tla siama" meaning "dont worry its gonna be okay neh"

Many people have little habits that help them sort out life and comfort them at the same time. At least this one is not destructive. I think it is not anything to worry about.

I'm wondering if you have a hearing problem. I do and I'm only 49. They told me I was borderline. So I don't think you have to be around a lot of loud noises to have it. My daughter is only 23 and I think she has a problem too.
Have your hearing checked.
