Hi, i was the editor of our high school newspaper and i always used these guidelines for making a speech:
1. Have a strong intro and a strong ending, the middle part should only enforce the intro and ending.
2. Decide on a topic and stick to it throughout the speech (sport, religion, politics, leadership, science, literature, etc).
3. Use a famous quote that goes well with the topic.
4. Let someone proofread the speech beforehand and allow them to correct you where you made mistakes.
5. Keep it short and simple, no one likes a long and complicated monologue.
Good luck!

While I love speech writing, I would find it difficult to write something with the lack of info you are presenting to us here. I'm sure there is theme to the day, if you were asked to do speech for it, but you haven't indicated it here. Give us more info, if you really want the help.
