Depends upon the response of your body to the bite. The irritation is generally caused by your body's reaction to the anaesthetic and any bacteria from the mosquito.

Any wound gets red and swollen due to increased blood flow, but mosquito reactions vary from person to person, so it is an impossible question to answer.

Its weird how they only target some people!!! I'm one of them!!!

Like a beesting, some people's bodys really react quickly, I think it is called a histamine response or something, but can't remember.

On me, the red bump shows up about 12 hours later. In fact this Labor Day, I was bitten so many times in the ankle, that I couldn't put my shoes on. I put my slippers on and went to the pharmacist. He recommended benadryl.

I was checking this web site.

Vitamin B-1 repels mosquitoes safely by Jeanne Santillan
Always the sole member of the family to be singled out by the mosquitoes, our 8-year-old now takes one tablet of Vitamin B-1 twice a day to repel the mosquitoes. A pediatrician told us this, but check with yours to find out the correct dosage.

Take out the venom and reduce swelling by eHow Friend
When you get a mosquito bite, the best way to reduce the swelling (especially for those like myself with extreme allergic reactions-swelling wise), take out the itch, and suck out the venom; put a hair dryer on the lowest setting and point it toward the mosquito bite. If the skin around the mosquito bite starts to get too hot, apply some rubbing alcohol, and come back to the bite later. Using the hair dryer sometimes stings, but the results are amazing.
