Christianity and Islam both claim to be the One True Faith and that all other spiritual expressions are False and Paths to Damnation. Isn't this just a bit extreme? Almost no other religions in the world make such fanatical claims. I don't include Judeaism because they don't loudly say such things these days. But, I bet they did in the olde days. Can't really blame them. They kept getting conquered by all sorts of unsavory folks. I can see how this can make a culture develop a 'the oppressors shall be punished' mentality. But, back to the real topic. If all humans, all over the world, have a spiritual side to their being and have religions to express this, how can any one single religion be the One True Religion? I think it's absurd. What do you think?

Believing your own god to be the chief god is not a recent concept. The ancient Egyptians once believed that too. Christianity must have picked up the superiority complex from the Jews and tweaked it to a new extreme. Couple this with the military and political might of the Roman Empire and you have ‘superiority’ par excellence. The biggest religions and their swords shaped everything that our monotheistic modern world is today. For better or worse, you decide.

When you say Middle Eastern religion, I hope you have nothing against the Babylonians etc. Those ancients played a very important role in many key religious and even occult developments.

When life is hard, religion comes naturally to many people. It helps them pull through. Look how religious the US was during the Cold War and the McCarthy era. You were either a Christian or a Commie. Look at the climate of the Middle East - rugged, hot, dry and water is scarce. Or America in the early pioneering days. They were isolated and protective and deeply religious. It's very easy to develop an 'us' against 'them' attitude and to find scapegoats. And it can get even worse, like with Germany after WWI.

Right on! There is not one true religion. All religions teach good behavior and give us guidelines for living. The Bible is like the owners manual for your car, with alittle history and holy smoke thrown in.

We think alike.

Sounds more like a mental health problem with some major insecurity issues to me.

Anytime someone tells me that they are right and everyone else is wrong this is what I think.
