If your head unit has an input it will most likely be a pair of RCA jacks in the rear. You would have to remove the unit from the dash and if it does, all you need to do is get an adapter cable from any electronics store. You would need a 1/8" male stereo plug on one end, and two male RCA plugs on the other. Just plug it in, reinstall your head unit and your all set.
If it does not have an aux. input the only way is to use one of those tape deck or radio adapters.

Stock or After-market head unit? BMW started offering an ipod hookup as an option last year in their cars, and I'm sure other manufactures will follow suit quickly. Most new head units come with a usb slot you can hook your ipod up to. If you didn't buy one yet, I'd say get the Jensen VM9511TS, its worth it.
