I was caught by a policemen and received 2 tickets for driving without a license and going on a red light. What will happen to me?
I do have a learner's permit and I am over 18. I am planning to plead guilty. How much will the tickets cost me?

This was not in the city but upstate new york. I was about half a mile away from my house. So do you guys think not pleading guilty and getting a lawyer would be the best thing? I dont' think I could afford a lawyer though.

Plead "not guilty" and mail the tickets in. The court will return a court date to you at which time the arresting officer or another officer from the police department will have to appear. DO NOT ask for a supporting deposition as you will thouroughly piss everyone off! Go to the court and the officer will approach you when he finds that you've plead not guilty. At that time he will more than likely offer you a reduced charge such as dropping the no license for a plea on the red light or something of that nature.
You can either accept his offer at which time the judge will call you to the bench, ask you for your plea, and fine you accordingly. If you don't like the deal, wait for your call to the bench and request an adjournment to seek counsel! Pretty cut and dry in NYS! The state doesn't want to go to trial and spend taxpayers money on nonsense! They're just looking to fleece you out of a few bucks the easiest way they can!
PS: If you appear in court and no officer shows up, you're home free! Ask the judge for a dismissal based on arresting officers no-show- He has to do it by law! Also, driving without a license in NYS is a misdeamenor and the fine is generally $200 but now a days they tack on the state surcharge. The judge may allow you to plead as if it were an infraction if this is your only run-in with the law. It's not a vicious crime and they usually don't make a big deal out of it. The judge won't send you to jail either! You can plead guilty to that charge without an attorney present, pay the fine, and walk out of the court room! It is immperative-read my lips-immperative that you go to court looking like a real human being and not somekind of freak! He will definitely drop the hammer on you if he's dissapointed in your demeanor! Gauranteed! NO FREAK SHOW!!! Leave the "goth" look at home and all the piercings too!! Dress appropriate for court and not in raggy dungarees!
You're trying to make an impression of yourself in front of the man/woman who will ultimately determine your fate!

Do NOT plead guilty! Get a lawyer and have him or her work the system. The best outcome would be if he or she could plead the ticket down to something that won't result in suspension of your right to operate, even if it costs more money in fines and attorney's fees.

If you plead guilty you'll be looking at likely losing your right to operate until you turn 21, as well as some steep fines.

Driving without a license is a crimminal conviction in most jurisdictions, not an infraction. It will also have a more significant impact on your future insurance rates.

The tickets will cost a lot of real money. If you were in Michigan, you would have your learners permit taken away and you would not have a chance to receive your permanent license until you turn 21. Consider yourself lucky and do something to eliminate your stupidity!

dont worry ur not the onli one just go to the court and a lawyer will represent you as soon as u get there and its free u dont have to pay anything and listen to your lawyer and dont forget to bring your learners permit etc.. it really depends on the judge but my estimates would be close to a thousand but dont worry its payable within a reasonable time or installment last dont push your luck driving with learners permit cuz ny can be tough and you dont want ur folks worrying if something else happens
