Two examples: the other day a lady was getting over in to my lane and was going to hit me (she obviously didn't see me), so I honked (just a toot, I didin't lay on it) and she flies the bird. And often I've been setting second at a stoplight, it turns green, I wait a few seconds, but the person in front obviously isn't paying attention, and again a short toot on the horn and the send the bird flying.

Do you think these situations didn't deserve honks or did deserve the bird? What is people's deal?

Hello,

use your lights to flash at them, or make short series of toots rather just one, this is a more common way to attract attention. By the way honkin' is for avoiding accidents, so many people feel it rude when they feel it was no reason to honk at them.

I personally never use the horn. People are very ignorant at it . Besides, trying to evade a dangerous situation by manoveurs rather than pushing the horn makes more sense.

People are full of aggression and when they drive a car, they feel a power which they otherwise lack (they are protected by the car), so the car can be an extension of their way to demonstrate power towards the outer world.

Regards

Metal cocoon wrapped around them makes them feel stronger more mighty. Shrinks have a word for it, Mechanics like me really get a kick out of watching people drive. I drive one of those lould exhaust 400+ Horsepower GTO's. So I just leave them in my dust and exhaust roar! BYE

They are jerks that think they will never see you again. Smile. The world is full of them.

it's called 'road rage'.
this 'behavour' has been classified by psychologists (psicologia comportamentale, don't ask me to translate that into english, cause i dunno how to).

in short, you let all the anger that's inside you when you drive...only then you manage to let it out. in normal life, you suppress it.
