Louise, I will pray for him. I hope he gets better. But you have to take care of your own health now too, and especially your strength. Your dad needs you to be well and strong so that you can comfort him. So, if you promise to try to eat something, even if it is just soup or fruit, and try to sleep; I will pray for you too. xxxx
And what do you mean. "what have I done?" You did nothing. People get ill. So do animals. Some die, some recover; it is a part of life and not something that is "done" to them by someone else (unless they were deliberately poisoned of course, or victims of cancer-causing pollutants etc.) So you need to stop feeling negative about your own role in this. It is hard on your emotions right now; misplaced guilt is the last baggage you need to carry!
Chin up dear! There will be lots of prayers for your dad and for others like him.

I will pray for your Dad right now. How old is your Dad? Colitis is an inflammation in the colon, it is very painful but with some resting of his intestines and some medication he should be OK. As far as the fluid in his legs and lungs goes, that may be due to a weak heart muscle. The doctors can give your Dad medicine that will fix that too. If his lung is collapsed they will put in a chest tube to reinflate the lung. They can see that on a chest x-ray though.

Yes. You are doing nothing wrong - just see him as whole and well, as if it is already happened that he is well. I am saying this from personal experience. Years ago, a good friend of ours was in a serious car accident. He was in a coma on life support and for several days the doctors wanted to switch it off. Someone I knew suggested that we did this (pray, seeing him as if he was already well and whole and the prayer had been already answered) and each time the group of us did this, our friend improved, to the point that the doctors decided that they would keep the life support on. I know it wasn't coincidence. He eventually recovered and left hospital.

He is in the best place so try not to worry unduly. You don't know for sure if his lung has collapsed or not but the doctors are aware , this is good he is being monitored. Don't blame yourself as this has nothing to do with anyone it is just sadly unfortunate. As far as I know people can live ok with just one lung. Give him time to heal and be strong for your dad, family and of course yourself. I really hope things will improve quickly. Dont give up it's much too soon for that kind of thought!

Yes we will pray for him. Trust God to do His will and heal your father. You know you don't have to wait until night to pray, you can pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) at all times. Why did you say "what have I done?" What's that about. I know it is hard to hear "don't worry," but DON'T. Be strong and prayerful for your Dad and we'll be waiting here to hear your praise report when he's out of the hospital and feeling better. Don't forget to let us know. May God bless you and your Dad.

i hate to be heartless, but death is the only certainty in every life. i recently lost my grandad to leukaemia so i know the pain of losing a loved one to death.
i don't know what you believe in regarding a hope for the dead, but i shall tell you my beliefs in a hope they can be of some small comfort to you.
i believe that when you die you have paid the price for sin and are no longer in debt to it. (romans 6:7,23)
the dead do not suffer as they are not conscious. (ecclesiastes 9:5)
there will be a resurrection of righteous and unrighteous. (john 5:28,29)
after the resurrection, there will be the 1000 year reign of Christ during which time the devil is chained in the abyss. (revelation 20:1-3)
after the 1000 years he is released to mislead whoever will be mislead. then satan and all who follow him will be destroyed for good. (revelation 20: 7-9)
then those left will be judged by their deeds (rev 20:11-15) from after the resurrection, not before as those have been paid for (romans 6:7,23)
then, those who are judged righteous will live forever on the earth. (psalm 37:29)
that is what i believe the bible teaches. i hope you find encouragement from those scriptures. however, i'm not asking you to believe what i do, that is up to you. if you believe in another hope, i pray you find encouragement from that.

I will pray for him right now and I will add him to my nightly prayers along with a special one for you. I pray that your father will be okay and that the Lord will heal him and send him home with you. I also pray that if the Lord has decided your father has completed his mission here on earth and it is his time to go, that God will hold your hand and give you understanding and the ability to cope and move on. The people you love never truly leave you, you will always carry pieces of them in your heart. God's will be done, whatever it may be. And peace be with with you and your father as well as the rest of your family. Be strong in the Lord for He is mighty and can cure all ills.

I sincerely hope that the skills of the medical staff attending your father effect a cure. That is where your hope lies. Not in a fictitious entity who needs flattering sycophancy to lure him into action
At a time like this, you do not want to hear a diatribe against theism and the ineffectiveness of prayer, so I will not go on. I really do hope he recovers.

Use hope instead of prayer.
If you must pray, pray for the 'best' for him, without telling the divine whether it would be better for him to heal or pass on. The divine already knows. If you pray to "please heal my dad", that's actually a spell because it's truly 'selfish', the best for you.
Just pray for the very best for your dad, no matter what that might be. That actually will give him more energy to heal.
