1- I like the Hasselblad, but it is quite expensive (about $6000 just for the camera). But if you want the best, you can't buy the best without paying a few thousand bucks.

It depends on what you want to take pictures of. Do you want a small camera to keep with you most of the time and take snapshots? Or, do you want a high quality camera for fine art photography or commercial photography. Hasselblad makes a 39 mega pixel camera for $30,000.00. They also make the best film cameras and I am sure that they are better than a Cannon. On the other hand, they will not fit in your pocket or purse. So, if you want a small digital camera that is a good value, there are many excelent cameras to choose from. Do you want to shoot video? Most of them do that as well. What is your budget? You can get a pretty good camera that will be ok for snapshots starting at $100.00. Generally, the price goes up with optical quality. Forget about digital zoom because all it is doing is just cropping the image. As far as zoom is concerned, only optical zoom matters. Go to a store that has a large selection of cameras and read, read, read. Do not listen to anyone working at a "big box store". If they knew anything about cameras, they would be taking pictures instead of selling cameras. Hold the camera in your hands. How does it feel? Does it need to fit in your pocket or purse? Try it out. Be careful about the last statment. Don't want to get accused of shoplifting. For prints up to 8x10 then 4 megapixals will be ok. If you want to sometimes have a large poster size print made (there are great places on the internet to upload images too) then you need 8 to 10 MP.

Start with the budget. This may seem backwards, but it's not. You can find a decent camera to match any amount of money you want to spend.
Next, find a friend who will help you learn how to use the camera. This "friend" could even be the clerk in your local photo shop. Buy the camera that your friend recommends so that they will be able to teach you how to use it.
After you know what you are doing and are ready for your next camera - and this will come sooner than you think - you will be in a position to make your own choice.
If you have some vague ideas about price and ddesired features, go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and see what they select for you.

if u wanna get quality pictures and print out...then the camera must have excellent lens quality...otherwise when u take pictures it might look good but when u print them quality may drop...so stick on to traditional lens makers CANON...and one good model of theirs is CANON DIGITAL IXUS 750...its cool...pricey...but worth each $ u spent...
