My step-son from England is living with us. He is 16 years old and this is the second time he has lived here. He has already messed up his schooling by going back to the U.K. just to be kicked out of the house by his mother . He has zero respect for his father, myself or even his girlfriend. He works hard in the tobacco fields but I cannot get him to even change his bedding or bring his dirty clothes out of his room. The only time he is not a complete butthead to us is when he wants something. I love my husband and I do love his son but I cannot live like this. What I have mentioned here is just the tip of the iceburg. He is bad and cares for no one but his mother, which is fine. I have asked for respect and I have had long talks to him about the way our house is ran and what is expected of everyone. But I may as well be talking to a rock. i do the cooking and cleaning around here and he only complains about the food I make. Betwn the yelling and cmplning I cant go on.

Your step son is having a hard time accepting you because he feels like (or his mother makes him feel like) he is betraying her if he does. Obviously she wasn't doing to good of a job with him either or he wouldn't be back in your home. You must demand the respect you deserve and make him well aware that if he does not follow your rules and show you and his Father respect than he will not be living with you anymore. Than, stick to it! Tell him to shape up or move out!

well that's really a hard question to answer. I'm 18 now but when i was 16 i was very unruly to. My mother filed unruly charges on me and every thing. I went to juvy. twice. skiped school and ended up droping out.i had no respect for anyone. But i change on my own as i got Little older. it could be the friends that he hangs with or hes being that way because of his mother in some way. maybe he fells betrayed. that his mothers not there or that his father wasn't there. not really sure the only thing you can do is try to be a good figure to him. give him the punishment when he needs it. and hope that he changes when he gets older.if that doesn't work then i would try professional help or the law. but as i said this is a hard question to answer i;m not in your situation. do what you feel is right.

Your in a tough spot. This little shi.thead will create as much strife as he can and relish every minute of it.The worst thing you can do is stand between father and son.My suggestion would be to discuss with dad how punishment should be delved out. This is your home .Tell this little jerk that he abides by your rules or suffers the consequences. He is still a minor and as such there a remedies to his behavior that he is powerless to resist.Contact your local juvenile authorities and request advice. They handle these children on a daily basis and are very knowledgeable about correcting abhorrent behaviors.Perhaps the threat will be sufficient.Good Luck.Don't allow this situation to cause lasting damage to your marriage. He'll be 18 soon.

It sounds like just talking to him is not going to work. You need to take him on a tour of the jail and give him a little taste of what his life will be like when he gets older if he doesn't change is ways now. Have you and you husband sat down and talked about it and what does he have to say about it? You could always try counseling, that may help. Check into the laws where you live you may be able to do something legally, if taking him on the tour doesn't help. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Tell him that so long as he is in your house he can hate you but he will respect you if you have to be standing there with a baseball bat and smash a few things around the house to get the point across.

If he is not in school, then charge him rent. If he does not pay, tell him to get his own place.
