Blood compatibility comes into light at the time of donation or Transfusion of blood . Only compatible blood can be donated.
As u know we have 4 blood types A, B, AB and O.Now AB happens to be Universal Donor i.e. can donate to ANY BLOOD TYPE. Now O is Universal Receipient i.e. can obtain blood from ANY BLOOD TYPEin time of need.
Wheras PEOPLE WITH bLOOD gROUP A and B can receive blood from the ones with same blood grp

Thers one more factor Rh or Rhesus factor .It has two types :-Rh+ and Rh- . Rh+ can receive blood fron Rh- bt the opposite cant be.DONATION OF INCOMPATIBLE BLOOD WILL LEAD TO AGGLUTINATION.
Now hopefully u must have understood why we have blood grp A+, A- and so on.

Blood compatibility is the type of blood you can receive during a transfusion if needed. For instance, if you are A positive - you can also receive AB positive. If you have B positive - you can also receive AB positive. However, if a person has O positive or O negative blood types, they can only receive that kind in which their blood is. If any other type is given to them, they have the great potential of becoming seriously ill, or even may result in death. This happens to 13,000 people in the United States yearly. Only 2% of these cases are won as well out of court settlement.
