The people have left the country for 3 weeks - we were not told about how messy his eyes and face get - Should we just wash with a warm cloth? He is starting to smell a little bit and look scruffy - how often can you bathe them? He is always so clean and his fur is so clean when we visit them.

I have an 8-month old pup shih tzu and yes, they can get very messy. Yes, u can use warm cloth but make sure u dry it after otherwise they'll do it themselves rubbing it on the floor or carpet. Please don't give her a bath everyday. They're only supposed to have a bath once a week or every 2 if you do dry bath in between. You'll dry out their coat with too much bath. I give Kali a quick wash with a warm cloth sprayed with her cologne every nite just to get the pup smell off of her. And if you have time, brushing their coat every nite will help to keep them looking good. Use a mat comb if you need to.

Yeah, whether it is food on his face or sleepy stuff in corner of his eyes, a warm wet cloth should do the trick. If you haven't bathed a dog before - that's an issue best left for the owner - or a groomer. Depends on what you agreed to do when you said you would dog sit. A bath usually is not involved. Bathing becomes an issue because if you don't rinse soap out VERY WELL (ie., completely) dog could get hot spots which are horribly painful for it. Especially because dogs with undercoats/long hair are more prone to these problems than dogs with short-hair.

Yes,you CAN use a warm,damp washcloth on the face.
****DO NOT bathe it!!!!!**** You'll end up w/a COMPLTELY *MATTED* MESS!!! That will need to be BUZZED COMPLETELY!!!

If it's a real bad smell and stays wet it could be a yeast infection..mine got one and it was real nasty smelling and wet all the time
