I wonder the same thing. A lot of people complain about how they're getting bigger, but aren't doing anything about it. It doesn't cost anything to go run up and down a flight of stairs a couple of times, or to do some push-ups, or take a jog around the neighborhood.
of course we're excluding people who have medical issues ~ this is for perfectly able people who allow themself to get big. these people need to work on themselves. most medical problems come from over weight people and smokers. if people would live healthy lives, we wouldn't have to spend so much money trying to make them better.
I have a job ~ I have 2 kids ~ 2 ~ I have stress ~ I am not overweight

I personaly am severely overweight and have been doing something about it for awhile now. With three kids, a job where I work 60 hours a week on the road or in front of the computer, and a near divorce a year ago, I had very little time to think about my personal health. That has all changed and I am losing weight. I didn't ask to be this large, but I didn't prevent it either. No, neither of my parents are fat. My family doesn't really have a predisposition of being large. I just had three kids two years apart and didn't lose the wight in between, and it went from there. I am now on a 1200 calorie a day diet and I work out 1-2 hours a day at the local fitness club. I DO NOT take "miracle" diet pills. The only people making money by making me slim is the hospital who owns the health club, but they are also making money off the slim people who go there. It is people like YOU that I am in fear of when I got to the gym, wondering what in the heck they are thinking or saing behind my back while I am trying to do something to turn my life (and health) around. I don't see how you can say that you are not being judgmental. As far as I can tell that is all you are being by asking a question like that. Oh yeah, and what do you care?

Yes sometimes it is genetics and sometimes laziness. It isn't always the fact that they eat too much, I eat 3 well balanced meals a day and I am still having trouble losing weight. Living overseas I don't have access to Weight Watchers like I did back home. The meetings give a lot of support and helped keep me focused. I lost 87 lbs in a year and a half. A lot of the time it is a very slow metabolism and the person isn't eating enough of the right foods to help speed the metabolism up and unless they are keeping a food journal and writing down everything they eat they never realize it. Also the older you get the more medical issues you have and the medications that they put you on hinder the weight loss process. Take it from someone who has been there, it isn't easy and if there is no support for their efforts they give up. I am at the point now where I am not so worried about the weight loss as much as I am about being healthy, my problem was 5 pregnancies in 3 years and 2 c-sections, I am still trying to lose it all and be healthy for my 2 girls. Just like it is hard for some people to gain weight to be healthy it is just as hard to take it off. I hope this makes some sense.

I was thin my entire life and very active. I'm now a little bit pudgy and joined the gym two weeks ago as I am at that stage where its like, 'OK! time to do something about this'. How ever, I got this far over weight sort of by accident. I can now see how this can happen to other people. I started snacking on cereal during the day, not just for breakfast but a few times during the day and night. I also got into the habit of having a sleep each afternoon. Before I knew it I couldn't fit into my jeans and had to go buy new clothes! By the time I realized that I was rapidly putting on weight, and started to eat better, the momentum of weight gain kept coming like a tidal wave! I'm in Australia so our sizes are different here but I went up 2 sizes in one year. So, yes people like myself do get to that stage where we think - gotta do something! But, I can understand how people can lose control of the problem. Its also hard not to stay at home and hide in shame...

Obesity is not so easily reconed. Sometimes obesity is gradual. Thus the person typically dose become aware that something needs to be done, but he or she could meet with small successes, and still a creeping loss of health. Often there are very poor habits, and habits are comforting to all of us, fat and skinny alike. There are also differences in genetics: just the way some of us are born to be taller than others, some are born to be fatter or skinnier than others. Women are generally fatter than men, but is this really because they fail to think, "I'd better do something about it now?" Or is it a matter of biology? Obesity may have a substantial motivational (lack) aspect, but I never want to look at an obese person and see the body and judge the person, just as I do not ever want to look at a young African-American man and make assumptions about his potential or probable criminality.

The same reason you probably would not have a clue on how to perform a brake job on your car... People are different... Their reasons are just as different... For you to ask this question, I imagine you have a lot of personal beliefs on the subject, and imagine you are one of those women with their ribcage protruding from their body, and while you may think that is stylish and proper, guys like me think it is very unattractive. Must women looked positively undernourished to consider themselves good looking, or "healthy"... Age also plays a major role in all this, and as you add on the years, you tend to reorganize your priorities.Give me a plump, happy waitress over the skinny, proper one any day...Why do some people get so preoccupied with other people's lifestyles ????? The next big woman you see, go right up to her and demand to know how she can allow her self to be so fat...she will be happy to set you straight, I imagine...

Some people get fat before they realize it, then it's an endless cycle - they feel bad about themselves, so they eat and don't take care of their bodies, then that makes them feel worse, so they eat more, etc etc etc.
Obesity is a big turn off for me. I would never be attracted to an overweight person. But that's just me. There are plenty of "chubby chasers" out there. If you are overweight, don't worry, someone wants you. Just not me.

First off because your just plain ignorant. You need to get a life and let people live there own. Why does it matter to you if people are happy then let them be happy. I am a plus size gal and I run and play sports and exercise. It's for some just how you were born genetics. Some of these other answers are absolutely insulting you people need a rude awaking about life!

Does it really matter? Or are you just being judgmental, critical, and an all-around pain in the butt?
This world would be a much happier and saner place if we would ALL concentrate on bettering ourselves BEFORE we decide that others have problems.
Face it....we are all human beings and we are ALL in this together.
