Hi - Check the iron content in the formula - Iron can be constipating. Also, a tablespoon of dark corn syrup (NOT honey) in 4 oz warm water can help too. Try massaging the baby's tummy in a clockwise motion using olive oil to stimulate the bowels. Another trick I would use is to lay the baby on his back and gently flex the knees and push the thighs up toward the abdomen. Sometimes I would mimic bicycling with his legs and that would ease the gas and stools. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately there is very little you can do to help you poor baby once you have opted to formula feed. Animals milk was never made for the human infant, hence why it's difficult for him to convert and digest. I don't want to sound like I am lecturing but breast milk was made for that purpose, it's not a side effect of having a baby it's for the baby God made it that way even animals know that, you don't see them using our milk. The cellular structure of animal protein is larger than that of the human cellular structure in our milk, it was designed by your own body to suit the needs of your baby, you body knows in advance what your offspring will need and produce it it a tailor made formula for you child some proteins higher while other lower, you will never find one woman's breast milk having the same composition as another, also it provides necessary anti bodies that an infant needs. I wish yo would reconsider since you will be helping your child, no formula in this world that is man made can ever replace breast milk, a good example is what is happening to your son now.
But if you insist try a Soy formula, it is not as harsh as animal based formula it might be a little more costly but it won't make him as constipated since it is plant based and it will not make him gassy.

maybe the hungrier baby milk is whats making him constipated as its richer. why do you feed him only every 4hours and not demand feed ? It is well known a baby should be fed on demand, Ifyou tried that you might find he wouldnt be so hungry! It could also be that he just isnt getting along with the sma, All my 3 daughters had cow and gate. You could try the website www.cowandgate.co.uk they have loads of info and you can also ask midwifes on there for advice. Good luck

My son is 2, he has had cronic constipation since birth, the longest he went with no bowel movement was 6 weeks and we both cried everyday. I tried everything.Eventually we were referred to the hospital (he was 1 and a half then) and he was given senna he has to take it everyday and even that dosent work like it should. I strongly suggest u get him to a doctors and make sure the problem dosen't get worse. I was told its his age he'll grow out of it and he didnt i justwish i hads done something sooner.
I cant stress how much it was hurting him or me to watch him
Good luck

well I'm 38 weeks and my mother told me that sugar water helps with hiccups and constipation but if you've tried water and Prue juice, I would take him to a actual doctor because there sounds like there is something wrong, or maybe you should try similac, or it could be that he's allergic to milk. but I'm not a professional so i would really ask a doctor.

i realy dont think for one minute it would her to give your dear little baby a drop of lactlose it is only a softener and I'm sure that if you speak to your doctor he would tell you to give him a little drop it wont do any harm but if it continues take him to the doctor and also you are best not to give him sugar in his water but when you give him water make it warm water and before his feeds and another thing to do is get some olive oil and very gentle put some on your fingers warm it up with your hand and then put a little up inside the baby's bottom just up inside and that will help failing all that get him to a doctor you know its not good for to go on to long good luck and take care cant beat old fashion remades

My daughter had this undertaking, and she or he does no longer drink cooled boiled water so I added a tiny quantity of fruit juice to it. Use the clean , no longer from consentrate type, try orange or apple, my daughter likes apple and mango, dilute a pair of million section juice to 10 areas water. additionally massaging the tummy, beginning low on HER suitable hand facet, as much as her abdomen button, around the proper of her abdomen button and down her left facet enables, make certain you do it in a clockwise direction as that's the way the bowel travels. I extensively utilized to place a tiny little bit of vaseline on a cotton bud and purely placed it round her anus and up very slightly. she gets over this degree, as long as she is taking some formula and not vomitting dont hassle too lots. If she does start up refusing foodstuff thoroughly and vomitting take her to docs or ER.

When he is pushing and pushing try stimulating very gently his bottom with a cotton swab and Vaseline or a pediatric suppository, I am telling you I do this when my baby have no vowel movements for a week or more and it works. When I went to the doctor he didn't have much to say just to keep doing what I am doing.

I can't believe your midwife and the health visitor are okay with a 5-week old baby drinking cow's milk! I've never heard of that being beneficial to babies. Shouldn't he be drinking formula? There are all kinds of formulas out there for babies with all kinds of problems. Please, pleaes consider formula. Babies cannot get the nutrients and vitamins they HAVE to have to grow strong and smart from just cow's milk. Look at a nutritional label for a formula, and then look at the label on the milk!!!!
