Tell her that you did it yourself and you want the red gone.

Light ash blonde always has red undertones.. You might have left the solution on too short a time. That is what happened to me. The hair color I used called for 20 minutes and my hiar usually takes to the color I want in 12 minutes. The professional will know how to handle the undertones. She might recommend streaking. Also, it seems that if your hair is light brown, the toner goes to red before it gets to blonde. Do the sample strand which the instructions sugggest to see how long it takes to get to the color you want. Do it each time because it seems to change.

ALL home haircolors will turn red. the red pigment is the cheapest. that's why the 'cheap' colors all have it.

if you don't know how to get rid of the red undertones how do you expect to tell a PROFESSIONAL how to? do you tell your doctor how to do surgery?

let the stylist know you don't like the red undertones and it will be fixed. show the stylist what colors you DO like. ask to see a color swatch (a book of them) and pick the ones you like and ask the stylist to make you your own color.

corrective color is usually AT LEAST double the regular price.

First of all doing it yourself was a huge mistake. You really need to go to a professional and get it redone. What is so hard to go to a professional and let them know you want the red undertones removed? Are you timid?

you didnt do anything wrong if your hair was darker then light ash brown then the color will not lighten it much. Try washing your hair a couple of times with liquid detergent it will help strip some of the color out and the red tone may become less noticeable.

She/He is a professional and be honest with them. Take in what brand you dyed with...permanent? semi-permanent? and they can remedy your situation. If you can go there early and find a pix or a sample of what color you want, that would help in the corrective color. They have swatches of hair samples and you can hold them up to your hair and be sure that is what you want. It is always best to go outside with the sunlight and see the real color. The florescent lights they have in the salons are so deceiving. I have found that Matrix has the best colors and is gentle on the folicles, as not to damage your hair any more...and it doesn't leave any bad smell. Good luck to you...been there done that!

You can fix it yourself. There is a product available to remove all hair color from your hair, then you can start fresh and get the color you want. I would stay away from any ash colors, since they don't turn out as well. Have you tried a warm Golden Brown?

for extra $ (usually double the cost of the hair color itself), the hairstylist will have to use a color corrective treatment product that is supposed to get rid of the many colors in your hair. After that she can color it based on your choice. I made the mistake of going it on my own and over time your hair has so many different colors running through it. My advice, seek out a professional. The price you pay there is no where near that cost of all those at home color products and the price you need to pay to fix it.

Don't use anything with ash in it ,I have had the same thing every time I did.The only way to get the red out is to bleach it out and start again.
