Why do you have to cut your hair? Hair grows on average about a half inch a month. So even a modest trim can take a while to recover. Not to mention the rough handling most salons give long hair.

If it's split ends you're concerned about, get a new pair of hair scissors from a beauty supply store and cut the splits yourself. Take a small section of hair, look for splits and trim about a half inch above the split. Really check out the strand of hair, because sometimes a split at the bottom is just a hint of the splits that could be up higher on the strand.

Find a comfortable place where the light is good and devote at least 10 minutes a day to this split mission. It will take a while to get most of the splits, but your hair will start looking better very soon. I start with the hairs around my face, because I think the improvement shows most there.

The scissors may seem expensive, but they will surely be less than the cost of a visit to a salon, the tip and your aggravation having to smell the awful stench of the place.

Hair has a natural taper at the end of each strand. Some think that it actually protects the hair, and that trimming across the hemline, actually weakens each shaft, making it more vulnerable to splits later. Nonetheless, those same people recommend the method above for getting rid of splits. So I guess although tapered hair is best, a trimmed end is better than a split end.

GNC has a supplement called "Nourishair" that makes the hair grow faster, you can read what's in it by googling it. Be warned these pills are HUGE and you have to take 2 a day.
Also ProCaps labs sells a "hair skin and nails" formula that does the same thing, supports hair growth and health, and is smaller and easier to swallow.
If you take only Biotin alone, make sure you take at least 2.5 milligrams or 2500 micrograms [the same thing] a day because thats' a good amount to take. I use the Nourshair supplement from GNC now and my hair is growing faster than it did, but it took about 6 to 8 weeks of daily use to see results

well if you only trim it, it will probley look the same anyway and you are getting the split ends off so that will make it grow quicker anyway
