If you want to eat breads, try to choose whole grains, and stay away from the ones that are refined....The same goes with pasta. Try and pick whole grain or whole wheat pastas...Also start your day out with some low glycemic foods, such as oatmeal or cheerios...these will help you feel fuller, longer....Try to eat about 5-6 smaller meals a day, and try to include some protein into each of these meals....This will kick start your metabolism...Also try to exercise about 3 time a week

In general, pastas and breads are high carbohydrate foods. Sugars are carbohydrates as well, just a different type. Carbs are an energy source for your body and are necessary for normal body function. However if that energy is not used (via work or exercise) then your body will store it as fat. Fat is used as an energy source as well, but is harder for your body to use. Dairy foods like cheese and yoghurt contain lactose (usually) which is a type of sugar.
I know this all sounds like ALL foods are bad, but not really. As long as you do some moderate exercise regularly (walk, jog, play golf, work in the garden, etc.), you can eat whatever you want. Moderation is the key. Eat the things you like, but just don't eat alot of it.
I try and balance things throughout the day. If I ate something fatty for lunch then for dinner I would eat something with no fat or low fat (a salad or something). Milk with breakfast, then maybe juice with lunch and water with lemon for dinner. Stuff like that seems to help me lose weight. You can also balance by eating a combination of things for each meal. As an example, if you have a cheeseburger for lunch, you've got meat and dairy and grains and if you have lettuce and tomato on it you've got vegetable as well... somewhat balanced, but generally higher in fat, so for dinner you might have a salad with some chicken on it or something.
Also, I take a multivitamin each morning to help my body with the change of diet and make sure I'm not eliminating any particular nutrient that might cause a problem.
Moderation and balance along with some exercise.

I can answer this because, I just lost quite a bit of weight. First lets start with your body. This is how it works. When your body burns fuel for energy it burns carbohydrates first. That's why marathon runners eat a big pasta dinner the night before the race. The next thing your body looks to burn is fat. So think of it this way. If you go low carb your body will be forced to burn fat. If you go low fat, the only fat your body will find and burn is the fat stored on our body. That equaling weight loss. Read the labels. The lower the carbs, the better. You can basically eat all the tuna, chicken and meat you want, providing it's lean. Unfortunately bread, pasta, potatoes are all high carb. find substitutes. There out there. GOOD LUCK!

You should eat plenty of lean meat, like chicken and turkey -- that has been GRILLED or baked, not fried. Most fast-food chicken sandwiches are out. You should avoid condiments like tartar sauce and mayo, unless they are light. You should stick to whole grain breads with at least 4 grams of fiber per serving. As far as pasta and potatoes.....it is my personal opinion that those aren't terrible in moderation -- but what is terrible is what most people put on them -- fattening sauces, butter, sour cream. Yogurt is good but try to stick to the light stuff.
If you like cereal, but something like raisin bran or another high-fiber cereal. Eat that for two meals a day, and then eat a balanced third meal. Everyone I know who has done this religiously for two weeks has lost at least five pounds, sometimes 10.
Good luck! Read labels and stick to lower-fat, higher fiber choices when you can!

Okay. First, you need to focus on what foods TO eat, not what foods to avoid. (You can only eat so much)
-Whole grains are healthy and give you energy, so instead of eating white bread chose whole grains and eat whole grain rice, not white rice. (refined, or white grains, cause your blood sugar lvls to spike, leaving you hungry)
-You are on the right track when you said to avoid fatty foods, but you where not quite correct. You will need a little bit of healthy fats(unsatuarated). Eating a small handfull of nuts or legumes is a good idea.
-Eat lean meat like chicken breast, pork loins (Yes pork loins are healthy!) and fish
-Instead of eating regular potatoes, eat sweet potatoes (more nutrients and less likely to cause your blood to spike)
-eggs are healthy but the yolk is high in fat and cholestral, try to use just the whites, or only 1 yolk per 2 egg whites
-yoghurt in itself is healthy, but tend to be high in added sugar. Look for no sugar, no fat versions, and blend with frozen berries.
avoid processed foods, foods that are fried and salty foods.
use olive oil, healthier and less calories
skim milk and skim dairy products= definetly
pasta is ok, but try to order tomatoe sauce, not creamy sauces.
When ordering soups, go for the broth based ones, not cream based
If you really want dessert, fruit is great!
Here are some healthy breakfast ideas
oatmeal with fruit
whole grain cereal and skim milk
egg white and low fat cheese omelets with veggies
Snack!
whole wheat bread or crackers w/ natural (only made of peanuts and salt) peanut butter and bananas
toast with a LITTLE margine and no sugar added jelly
You should aim for 2-3 servings of lowfat dairy
6 servings of grains
2 servings of meat and beans (legumes are included
3 servings of fruit
3-5 servings of veggies
