Best place to buy a used car in Southern California?

In my days in Southern California (2003), I remember charity places that would sell used cars (some jalopies, some really nice cars if you know what to look for). The Salvation Army and other charitable organizations would do that around the Oxnard-Ventura area. Do you know of these and similar places?
