To me the best bang for your buch radar detector is the BEL 895, for $200 at Radio Shack. The BEL 895 is not the best but it is certainly up there with the top 3 radar detectors[Escort 8500 X50($300), BEL RX65($329.99), and Valentine 1($400)] I personally have a BEL Vector 995($270) and Valentine 1($400) and their is only a slight difference in detection range. I like both detectors equally due to their unique features.

I would never spend less than $200 for a radar detector. The performance of the cheap detectors is not worth the cost...Save up for a little bit high model cause the performance difference will be huge..

Cobra Radar detectors are horrible. Don't buy them.

In North America, Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia(only a $95 ticket and you keep your detector), Washington DC, and some providences in Canada

the best kind is the one that will jam radar. but they are very expensive. i wouldn't use a regular radar detector because the cops can turn their radar gun on right before you get to them and nab you before you have a chance to slow down.
