Atheists are just believers who don't understand that God is love.

Where I live about half the people are atheists and maybe 30% have a more gnostic view on religion or just believe there might be "something", so in general religion is not much of a discussion over here. It's more the religious people that don't talk about their religion, I think because they can't argue with ratio. At least, most of them hardly ever talk about it and keep their religion in their private environment. I think this is a good thing and I hope it stays like that.

Yes. I'm in the military and forced christianity is everywhere around us. Even the other religions are only loosely accepted. The only religion I feel is acceptable in my work world is a god-jesus based religion. Some of the people I directly work with know about me. One guy in particular got so upset one day when we were just vaguely talking about religion, he came in during the middle of an intelligent discussion, and started repeating the same verse over and over, "For all of men have fallen short in the eyes of god" or something. I mean, this kid was almost crying, you could see the emotion in his face. So even though I never told him specifically, every time anything religious comes up I have to hear crap from him about how I'm godless, and I would burst into flames if I went near a church.
Atheists are definately in the minority of our world, and for the people that are religion biased, to them atheism means that you would sacrifice your own mother, have no rules, and just want to do drugs, kill the innocent, etc. It amazes me that people who are blinded by their own religions truly think the only way a person can be 'good' is with religion in their lives. In my experience, the most level headed, human-loving people I know, are atheists. true, it's just my experience, but anyone I know who talks about knowing god, also go on about how certain people of the Earth should be wiped out, and this, that, and the other is an abomination, even though no one is being hurt.
Anyway, to make a long story short (TOOOOOO late!), yes my Atheism is relatively hidden during the day.

I didn't really hide or flaunt my beliefs when I was an Athiest, it wasn't relevant. The only reason I didn't inform everyone I met of my religious beliefs was that I didn't think it was polite to challenge the religious views of others. There isn't a closet for things you have no need to be embarraseed about.

I'm not an atheist but I think you are right, Rev Trask. Many atheists probably do stuff it in the closet so that other people will approve of them. That is, if there's really such thing as a true atheist.

Well I am an Agnostic and I don't hide it. If someone asks I tell them I don't believe that there is any proof for or against the existence of deities and I'll find out when I'm dead if anything is there. Why should I hide it? It is part of who I am.
**
My parents know that I am an Agnostic and they are christian. They know I love them for who they are not what they have. I don't care what is in their will and who gets it. Let my brother and his kids have it all.. doesn't bother me.

I'm not an atheist, however I'm not a Christian so most people just tell me I'm an atheist (which is not correct by the way). Anyway, why would anyone hide it? Should atheists be ashamed for what they believe? I don't think so. It's a free country.

I'd imagine many are. For one, most of the atheists I know just prefer to be left alone; also keep in mind that they are one of the most discriminated-against groups in the US.
