This sounds very much as though your parents have either been listening to some exaggerated scare stories or else they want an excuse to get rid of the cat.
There is a possibility that if any of you have asthma then an attack could be sparked off by inhaling cat hair - but the asthma has to be there already, the cat can't give it to you.
For a pregnant woman, there is a small danger if she cleans out the cat's litter box. A cat can sometimes pass cysts in its stools which contain the parasite 'toxoplasma gondii' which can cause the disease 'toxoplasmosis' which can affect the unborn baby. However, I do mean VERY SMALL danger. So many factors have to come together at the same time that it's a small miracle that anyone ever catches it.
Just be sensible about hygiene - wash your hands after handling the cat, keep your mouth away from it and clean the litter box every day.
So come on you parents - own up - you want to kick the cat out, don't you ?

Any vet will tell you that there are almost no diseases that dog & cats can pass on to humans. We, however, are a mass of dangerous germs for them! It really is true that a dog's mouth has less harmful bacteria than a human's. As for cat hair; the only thing to worry about is an allergy to cat dander, & you'd already know if that was the case, or if the kitten's fur was dirty, but they are very good about cleaning themselves. Also, it's just not a good idea to be swallowing a lot of hair, whether it comes from a pet or a human, because a small child can choke. And you can't blame the kitten for that.

If I were u, I would talk to a vet about it. I notice most every answer is no, so then why is it bad for pregnant women to be around cats? One reason I know is the cat box problem. Most people that I know that have cats, have cat boxes for them. When the cat gets in it it then has bad germs on its paws. It then jumps out, then onto a lap, the bed, a chair, and leaves the germs there for someone to pick up. The Vet can tell u a lot more than I can.

Your parents are looking for an excuse to get rid of the kitten. No the cat hair won't harm your brother unless he's allergic to cats in which case it will make him sneeze or have an asthma attack. But because he isn't having that problem the hair won't harm him. Maybe your mother just doesn't want the hair all over the furniture. More people are harmed by women's perfume than will ever be harmed by cat hair.

some people are allergic to cats...but they are actually allergic to the cats saliva (it's saliva on the fur)...but NOT the fur itself. If your brother is not allergic there should be absolutely NO problem at all with him kissing and playing with the cat. There is NO disease you can get from a cats fur! Your parents are being a bit paranoid. Don't you think if this was true that millions of people would be dropping dead everyday of cat fur deaths!!! Let your parents know that they are overreacting.

If your little brother is a baby, then maybe the hair can be inhailed and cause problems, such as choking....My sister was so afraid of this I took her beloved cat in my home. Alergies are the most common illnesses that can develope, look for signs of any alergy symptoms, and if your brother is older still look for signs, but let him enjoy the kitten.

Cats can cause allergies like asthma or give you worms. My parents also used to say it was danderous to swallow a cats hair but I dont know why. I always had cats as a kid and I would kiss them and sleep with them on my bed and nothing happened to me,so dont stress about it. Its probably just an old wives tale.

My family had a lot of cats during years, since I was born I remember having at least 2 cats at home, nothing happened to my family , nobody had asthma or any disease from cats, cats dont pass diseases to humans , it is humans who pass diseases to each other by contagion, and if the hair of your cat is long you can always take him to the vet to cut it, as I always do because my cat's hair is very long, humans never had any disease from hair , never heard of it except allergies but those are special people who have a tendency to allergies, since prehistory humanity have dogs and cats as friends , the pharaohs use to mummify their cats when they died as they considered them divine
