not an easy question children can travel in taxi with no car seat but i think if it is your taxi and your child then the law is you must have one it also depends on how safe you want your child to be if you are involved in an accident some of my local taxi are carrying booster seats in case you get in with child
a child can travel in a car with out a car seat but only in an emergency

Taxi drivers in Ca are not required to carry child seats. Thats what a police officer told us when a mom came to our office asking the same question.

You would be required to have a car seat if using the taxi for your own private use. (anytime YOUR child is in the car)
You do NOT have to provide a car seat for customers. They would have to bring their own with them.
Make sure you do not allow a child into the taxi if there is no car seat. It could be a major fine for you. Car seat laws apply to taxis but you are not obligated to provide the seat.

No need for car seat if taxi being used for business but if being used as a private vehicle then its treated just like an ordinary car and a booster seat is required.....Mind that means a black hackney taxi not a private taxi....

yes , because the need for the childs safety is still the same, in many states not only is the driver ticketed ,but the violator or guardian of violator as well.
