Your question is vague. If you are asking who was the best painter, then it would be Da Vinci, simply because he was more active and adept in that area. If you are asking which was the better artist, then it would be Michaelangelo, because he had a clearer 'vision'; that is, he could perceive, and execute a concept without outside influence. Da Vinci, for all his skill, did not think 'outside the box' with his painting; he painted in the style of the times, and did so with much skill. But he was not innovative with his composition, or perspective. If you are refering to each mans genius, then it would be Da Vinci, though few people realize how broad Michaelangelo's talent was. He could take on painting and scultpture, as well as architecture and civil engineering. Both men were amazing products of their time.

da Vinci for all that he did. Michaelangelo was just a good artist. (Ha Ha. I said "just"; that's like saying the ocean is a little wet)

Both were extraordinary artists but Da Vinci was a true Renaissance man who could do everything! A brilliant inventor as well as an artist!

I study Renaissance art and I don't think you can say one was better than the other as they were so different. When you study people like this in great depth you almost feel as if you know them and you get a feel of what their personality may have been like.

In the art stakes they were both superb. I've been lucky enough to handle and view some of their work personally and they were both extremely talented artists. Michelangelo's genius lay in his ability in sculpture whereas Leonardo's genius lay in the fields of anatomy, science and technology. Michelangelo worked hard at his comissions, Leonardo worked hard for his own gratification.

I personally like Leonardo best as his love of animals, bitchiness, superb dress sense and capability as a polymath appeals to me.

I respect Michelangelo greatly but he was always a bit too tortured for my liking. Plus he hated Leonardo!

Never forget though that each bought something very special and highly important to the Renaissance, as did many other artists and that they were both equally important in this sense.

DA Vinci was probably a more innovative painter. He was also a great thinker and engineer, having drawn up prototypes of an airplane and a tank. Michelangelo considered himself a sculptor, as he was not really interested in painting.

I have to ask u this question; Why does one have to be better than the other? They were both great artists. That is like asking, which is better, an apple or an orange, or a banana, or a peach, etc, etc. They are all fruit, just different kinds of fruit. Personal preference will come into play in such matters, but that's not to say one is better than the other.
