Crocs, everybody's wearing them now. They are super comfy, easy on and off and are ventilated for those of you with stinky feet syndrome.

a closed comfortable shoe not sandals, flip flops and other open shoes since it can get really cold on the plane. also don't be worried by the whole taking your shoes off for scanning thing, it takes a minute even if you're where laced high-tops its the least of your worries. also, try not to take your shoes of during the flight it just leads to more inconveniences, it can get a little crampy in there and the space is little enough-very limited.

i have found from personal flying experience (9 long haul flights a year) that the most comfortable shoes I can wear are either sneakers or a pair of casual step in moccassin type. Dont take them off during the flight as your feet swell and its hard to get your shoes back on once you land. Better keeping your shoes on during the flight.

soft leather shoes such as suede, canvass, corfam or anything strechable. remember that your feet will grow a full shoe size after only 5 hours of staying in the seated position. this is why you find a hard time putting your shoes back on after long flights assuming that you took them off.

Something comfortable like a sneaker, sandal, etc. I would also think about purchasing a good support stocking to wear, especially if you are sitting in coach. They will help prevent pooling of blood in your legs due to limited mobility for a period of time.

I would wear sandals because in the security check you do need to remove your shoes, all you have to do is slide the sandals off your feet. Sandals are really comfortable and easy to remove.

The best thing to do is to wear something that's comfortable and slips on and off easily so you can get through the checkpoints and get on the plane quicker. My girlfriend likes to wear Vans, and I prefer wearing slippers. We bring low cut socks in our carry-ons to slip on once we're in the plane.
